Has anyone opted for 10 ft ceiling? The house that I will be going with already comes with 9 ft ceiling but builder can upgrade it to 10 ft for extra 10K which I am very much tempted to go for especially since this one upgrade you will never be able to do at later time.
What are the drawbacks of having 10ft vs standard 9ft? (kitchen cabinets will be up high and may need little taller step-on) may be little more cost to heat.
Also will it make any difference while resale...?

Insights appreciated.

It is a ripoff. Stay away from such upgrades which do not add value to your house. your will not notice any difference between 9 and 10 ft.

....instead, if you are getting a basement, ask to see if you can get a full height basement... that is 9 ft after they put all the ducts and such.

@ Dimple, 9 foot to basement is an option available at 10K extra. I am just wondering how/if the house will really look odd from outside when both the options were choosen..(who knows it may literally stand out against the other properties).
10 foot on main floor may add decor expenses such as taller kitchen cabinets, taller windows, bigger paintings, fans, etc.

I doubt it that house eleveation will change with increase in floor height. The builder will compromise in attic height. I have couple of rooms on 12 ft height and there is no attic on those rooms. It came as standard and I did not pay anything extra.
