Hello CD's.
I want to upgrade my education and when looking through website, there is many kind of colleges in GTA some are private and some are government operated.
what i am understanding that Sharidan, Humber, centennial , rayson are govt. operated and like himark, Standford, trios college, etcc are private colleges too.....
Please correct me if i am wrong on above statement.
question is does it make any different to do a course or Diploma through private college vs govt college OR major drawback after completion of diploma from private college instead of govt operated college?
more importance in future when you are looking for a job and employer could say "Ohh.. this is private college diploma and we can not recognized? or in future when you start the business does it makes any complication b'cos of completed course on private college?
Your inputs will be gretly appriciated.
Rgds
If is for the knowledge:
Public College is better ( of course ..... self study is the BEST)
If it is for Employment:
Public College education is perceived as more genuine than private college education ( by some employers )
If it is to improve your resume / general profile:
Any diploma from any college is okay ( genuine or fake )
Thanks Gurram for your valuable inputs....
Centennial,Humber,Ryerson (which is actually a uuniversity)and Sheridan have a good name recognition and will allow for better internship and work opportunities. Fees are also less than the so-called, for profit private colleges. Depending on the courses that you wan to take, there are many great on-line learning options at these colleges and it may be even possible to complete majority of course work online which will allow you to continue working at your current job.
I do not know your personal circumstances, but why not try universities? Most of the universities have on line programs.
One good thing about studying is that you also get tax benefits.
I realised that we immigrants settle for less in our career (college v/s university in this example), as we focus on settling down and getting a firm hold here. The only way we can make life better for future immigrants is if we raise higher in management cadre and help other desis. I rarely see a person of colour in upper ranks.

Meghals point is a very valid point.
I find that there is a big difference between Canada and USA in this aspect.
I find that more and more Desi's are going up the ranks in USA companies while we find very less in Canadian companies.
An interesting anecdote on this issue:
I was invited as a observer for one of our companies Canada vide Work Place Safety Annual Conference. We are a Multinational Fortune 500 company.
This involved our President and the top management of a total of about 20 people including Vice Presidents and General Managers.
To my amazement I found that I was the only non-WHITE person in the room while everyone else was WHITE.
I did not find a single black or brown or yellow in the GM and above level.
The question is that eventhough we have 100's of brown people in the middle management with 25+ years of service none of them have been able to break the Glass Ceiling.
I think it'll take us another 2 to 3 generations to break this cycle. The other option is to start our own companies and hire all Qualified persons and NOT based on the color of the skin.
