Recently a US diplomat had fired on two pakistan men and killed them. He had done it in self defence. As a diplomat he has immunity and hence can get back to his embassy and can avail safe passage to USA.

The Pakistani police has arrested him and have charged him with murder. Senator Kerry is in Islamabad and he is trying all his best to get him out. On the side note USA is in the process of sending another USD 3.3 Billion to Pakistan.

Eventhough USA has threatened that they will send the Pakistani consul in USA back to Pakistan and also jumping up and down - Pakistan has kept this diplomat under police custody.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and his group were caught at New Delhi airport with nearly USD 1,20,000 cash in their bags. They did not declare it during customs. The officials arrested him and kept him under custody. Within hours the Pakistani MEA got in action and threatened the Indian Home Office, spoke to PC the home minister and now the guy is out of custody. His passport is with the government but he is free to roam around.

Couldn't the Indian government kept this guy in custody like the US diplomat ?.

Nope the Indian government released this guy and showed their weakness to the world. If they cannot get a guy like Rahat, how will they get justice for the November 26th Mumbai attacks?.

I don't think both of these cases can be compared.

In case of Pakistan, a US diplomat killed Pakistani nationals. Being a diplomat should not give the license to kill. They are suppose to "convey tough messages of their government" as obama puts it. Plus there is national sentiment, which is anti america and is making it hard for their government.

In case of Rahat's case, I think it was a good move. The money he was caught with is not a lot. Yes, I know above $10,000 should be declared but its not like he is a terrorist. In which case he should have been kept under custody. To improve relations between people this was just good gesture.

Having said the above, I do agree that current government is way to soft on terrorists. I don't have a say as I am "Canadian" now :) but its time to bring back BJP.

I agree with Manjeet. Both the cases are different. You can't compare apples to oranges. While one has committed a serious crime/murder, the other merely did not declare the sum from the border officials. How many time does this happen all over the world and even in Canada? Remember, he's a celebrity hence all this brouhaha. His passport is still with Indian Govt. so you can't really say they are being soft specifically in this case. Yes, overall they are pretty soft and the Govt. is already spineless to handle any internal/external threats.

I also agree that Congress must not be in power anymore. The only viable alternative is BJP.

When we have BJP govt. and things go wrong we vote congress and when we have congress govt. and things go wrong we vot for BJP.
BJP is also corrupted. Corruption won't go even we have BJP.
In fact the whole system is corrupt...
We need new party, BS - "Bharat Swabhiman" They are on their way

I am surprised that some of the CDs are repeating the crap that Jhollawala (Left leaning liberal) journalists are dishing out that there is little difference between Congress and BJP in corruption. I do not agree to this logic. Congress culture is culture of corruption. Unlike BJP, it is not a cadre-based party. It is a family enterprise where the authority vests with a single family. They rule through dummies like MMS. They have the biggest share in each scam. The family truly runs in Mafia style and works through nominees. When the scandal becomes public, they wash their hands off and the dummy like A. Raja or whoever is heading the ministry pays the price but the family pretends innocence and escapes reprisals. BJP, admittedly, is a corrupt party but due to factions (all democratic parties have factions) keep check on the extent of corruption. The minister or PM in BJP can never get away with the kind of scandals that has happened in Congress/Sonia/ MMS tenure. Left leaning liberals have popularized the concept that since all political parties are corrupt, there is no real difference between BJP and Kangress. This is not true. The extent and nature of scam, amount involved and national interest compromises are equally, if not more, important considerations. Kangress has failing grade on all these aspects. Kangress has no connection with India (Due to the family which runs the outfit) and MMS has no qualms in selling Indi. The way they have encouraged Islamists, tolerated Chinese and stashed money abroad is testimony. BJP leaders , even if they wish, can not indulge in corruption to the scale to which Kangress does. Karntaka is a good example where BJP insiders have helped to uncover BJP CM’s scam. Kangress under Sonia/MMS would sell off Kashmir and Assam and other NE states. I wish that these goons lose power otherwise India would be destroyed in their next term. If a person like Narendra Modi assumes power then and then only India would emerge strong. Today entire ELM, intelligence agencies and judiciary istrying to frame him but he has been able to survive. Please do not ever compare Sonia/MMS run Kangress with BJP.

As I was reading through this response, I was feeling that the author has read my mind, until it became too judgmental/personal.

People get the government they deserve. Being in Government continuously gives enough time to the ruling party to feel comfortable and build support structure and alliances within bureaucracy. That's why you see more corruption with passage of time.

I remember in 80s and early 90s, Haryana made lot of progress when it had three parties and no party was able to rule for longer periods. There was a quick switch to rule. Not the case anymore.

No party should be able to stay in power for too long. That is true for Congress, BJP, Liberals or Conservatives. Its just not in best interest of people.

The change is party is also important for a change in governance approach. I wouldn't agree that BJP and congress are similar but they may not decide differently on most issues. Only the approach might be different. I think BJP needs to come back especially to break the momentum of separatists groups within India. Under congress they have grown unchecked. The policy of congress to appease certain section of population has done more harm than good. I would rather take a bitter pill than a dirty congress politics.

I am an optimist and I think change happens slowly. As Indians get more confident and optimist, they are going to demand better governance. Its just going to take a bit longer than what we would have hoped for.
