Hi

We are not catholics, but would like to admit our child in a catholic school in Mississauga. Not only is the school very near to where we live, its also one of the good schools available in this area.

Normally, the catholic school system by rule does not admit any non-catholics for the elementary school years, but is there a way out of that?

If we approach the Trustee or the Principal with request for admission, can they waive the eligibility conditions for a child who is non-catholic?

Thanks

I tried for my son but did not succeed. Let me know if you find a way out.
Here is response I got:
"Unfortunately in our Elementary System (Junior Kinder garden to grade 8) the child and or one of the parents must be baptised Roman Catholic or a religion that is recognized by the Holy See of Rome.

Once your children reach Secondary, they would be able to attend any of our Secondary School.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards"

As you mentioned your friend is Christian, and the school only accepts Catholics and the other Christians affiliated with Holy seat of Rome. So, it could be possible that their Christianity faith is affiliated. That's why they were not asked to be verified.

Exactly my thoughts!!!! Isn't this a form of discrimination, just like the apartheid system that they had in S Africa??
In India, at least one can get admission into a Christian school, even if one is a Hindu/Muslim/Buddhist.
The media needs to pick up on this, and then maybe the decision makers will wake up and take notice.

I heard these catholic schools are funded by Tax dollors of all Canadians - then why such discrimination ::confused:
If you are a hindu and your tax money goes to Run such schools then your kids has right to go to any catholic school

all schools have same ciricullum. do not be confused....:)

Difference is public schools in Brampton and Mississauga are replica of Indian schools....80% students are South Asians, Rest are Orientals or East Europeans or Africans
