I think we just look at life with a new lens on, the same things that bothered us when we were in India before seem quaint thru the new lens, you appreciate the little things in life...thats what living abroad for a long time and returning does to you I guess..so i dont think the honeymoon ever ends

Bought a 3 yr old Hyndai Accent that ran for 19,000 km. Now I need to learn driving with a stick shift. So far using a driver to go around.

Care to divulge the price (or send as PM). I am also looking for a similar car.
Once you know how to drive a car, then mostly it does not matter stick or automatic. You can learn in a day. Modern cars (like the one you bought) will pick up speed once you release the clutch. It is not the the 80ès fiat which I drove, in which you have to know the exact time when to release the clutch and press the accelarator or the car would stall and stop.
Peace

Please be very careful about drivers. Do a background check and also get a photograph with finger prints.Usually your local police station can help in this matter. If the guy is new to town be extra careful.

Do not talk about any personal or financial matters with your family on the telephone while travelling in the car with the driver.

If possible if your kids are going to be dropped/picked up from school prefer that you send somebody from your home in the car along with the driver.

Do not trust the driver.

Based on the past history of what is happening in India my 3 naya paisa's.

Valuable advice by vandematram. No compromise on these issues. I know lot of incidents / crimes involving drivers / servant maids.
