Sakhi's do not wear a sari when flying in USA.

The following has happened to the Indian Ambassador to USA, Ms.Meera Shankar for the second time in the last two months and if this can happen to the Indian ambassador to USA how big are you?.

It is so frustrating to find that she was singled out from a line of 30 and humiliated and when she presented her credentials they ignored it.

More humiliation is that how slow the Indian government has been to react to it.

May be we need to do our Desi Style- Delhi/Haryanvi JAT police Danda check when Hillary Clinton visits India.

US Indian Ambassador Meera Shankar ‘humiliated’ during pat-down at Mississippi airport
December 9th, 2010 admin 0 Comments
US Indian Ambassador Meera Shankar was apparently ‘humiliated’ during a pat-down search at the Mississippi airport last December 4, when the diplomat is to about to depart from the country.

According to international news sites, the Transportation Security Administration (TDA) search done to the Indian ambassador was ‘humiliating’, and some Indian government officials were upset and announced that they will take it up with US.

Apparently, there were witnesses who saw the incident including MSU’s International Security Studies center research associate Tan Tsai, and found the foreign diplomat ‘uncomfortable’ during the pat-down search.

“The way they pat them down, it was so humiliating. Anybody who passed by could see it.” Tan Tsai told the news, and also said that the Indian ambassador was the only passenger in a group of at least 30 that was
pulled aside.

“She (Meera Shankar) is a:) very strong woman;) , but you could see in her face that she was humiliated.” Tsai added, while apparently observing the Indian ambassador being hand-search by a lady airport official.

:cuss: Witnesses added the Ms. Shankar was singled out by the airport officials apparently due to her attire, as the Indian ambassador was wearing a Sari, a traditional robe for female Indian.

The Indian ambassador pat-down incident happened at the Jackson-Evers International Airport in Mississippi that do not have yet full-body screeners, which means all passengers should pass through the pat-down search.

On the other hand, a TSA spokesman said diplomats like Meera Shankar are not exempted from the pat-down searches but insisted that the Indian ambassador was ‘screened in accordance with TSA’s security policies and procedures’.

Meanwhile, Mississippi governor’s spokesman Dan Turner told the news that the incident is still being investigated and decline to comment further.

Meera Shankar, Indian served as a guest of the Janos Radvanyi Chair in International Security Studies at Mississippi State University, and spoke in front of more than 100 people at the Executive Lecture Forum of Jackson.

Very sad news for India and Indian people. Nothing will change the cycle. Final answer after investigation will be "Officers were doing job, and no compromise in nation's security". We may see another film like MNK (My Name is Khan) soon....

What happens if your doctor asks you undress yourself to check your body? Don’t we obey?
Let us not cry on a police whose duty is to protect his /her nation, if it their duty .
Why should we have sympathy on a person who was asked to go thru the security check?
It is these leaders often trouble the commoner in the name of their security.
How come a strong woman gets humiliated? If she is humiliated she cannot be a strong one.

Would love my views are thoroughly criticized

The issue here is about a well established international protocol that allows individuals with diplomatic immunity and diplomatic privileges to bypass certain procedures. Ambassadors come under that category. It would be nice if all countries respect that protocol.

TSA lately has started earning the reputation of acting like goons since these ignorant "mall cops" think they have absolute powers. There are plenty of examples to that effect with the latest being a new mother being harassed for over 45 minutes over x-raying the breast milk. So, a protest should be made.

Having said that, diplomats and their cohorts are not squeaky clean either. They become arrogant thinking their status can protect them whatsoever. Two such examples - A diplomat from Georgia was involved in a drunken driving murder in NY and escaped to Georgia. US offered sufficient threats against Georgia that the diplomat was returned to serve the justice. Several diplomats parked their cars illegally in NY streets. NY city decided to go after them.

I think this matter could have been handled in a better way if, as the story purports, the sari was an issue to be pulled over. I think the ex President of India was more pragmatic and forgiving than this woman when he was subject to search.

By the way, I comply to my doctor's request, not obey. Because, I am fully entitled as an adult to refuse doctor's request/orders/treatment/etc.

I dont understand the fuss, are diplomats immune from carrying out terrorist acts.
I dont think anyone deserves preferential treatment.

May be there is some protocol that diplomats should be exempted but i agree security before anything else.

Every time a actor or a politician gets patted down it is a big deal, regular folks get patted down every time and no one raises a fuss..

Imagine a diplomat from syria or estwhile taliban afghanistan does not get patted down , would u feel safe.

Sucurity first. Religion, culture, outlook, Diplomats, etc. take an extreme backseat. Period.

I would rather have people(with myself included) being strip-search than die in a mid air explosion. Those who don't agree, please stay home and confine to your own world.

Would US react in the same way if Tim Roemer was frisked? This is not the first time. When George Fernandes was India's defence minister, he was humiliated in the same way.

Worst treatment came from the Chinese , when India's Ambassador to China was awakened from her sleep at midnight by the Chinese police and that too just to make a point.

I guess its their way of showing the Indians their place.
