I have also found Indian Postmen as very hard working people delivering post in sweltering summer heat on bicycle .... hats off to them ... the comment against them is unjustified .

In India: I got my shoe stolen at temple once when i was in school. My Bicycle got stolen in the court's parking when i was in college. I donot recall anything else major happening with me.

The mail is delivered by the same postman for several years and it never got lost even with wrong or uncomplete address. Even if we misplace something there - just that loss of item no threat of identity theft.

I canada I lost my bank atm card in mail several years ago. PR comes very late in mail becaue of immigartion people (canada post is ok). now this UPS lost packet.

The problem is that these big companies and departments donot provide any help in these cases. We can just call a 1-800 number, that is more painful after such an incident. The 1-800 people ask to to press so many choices first then after about half hour wait you talk to someone who is very slow (it is usually not indian people on these slow call centres). they spend most of the time to confirm your numbers, postal codes, and DOB etc and less time on your problem after that they say they will look into it. NO time frame. dissicult to talk to their supervisors - very frustrating.

but in this present case I already talked to UPS they asked me to talk to the sender as only sender can initiate an enquiry into it. I talked to sender they will now take couple of days to tell me something. I will have to call back the sender's 1-800 number because they will not call me as they already got the money.

This kind of non-responsibility is unheard of in India and there is finally some solution in India more quicker than Canada.

Identity theft is a serious problem in Canada. Indian system is much much better in the fact that if someone steals ur identity then no damage could be done because most of the services require ur signature and photograph. In Canada there is no value of signature and photograph. The technology in Canada is wrongly implemented as it is missing "Authentication" technique or the implementers do not know how to implement it. It is mostly a trust based system which has no meaning to the bad guys.
Some Indian engineers are required to fix it but unfortunately Indian engineers do not get job here. So the saga will continue...

It is true identity theft is a huge problem in Canada. I thought that it could not happen to me because for the most part we Indians have unique names. But my Mastercard was compromised and someone charged $500 worth to it until it was caught by the credit card company. So please do not think that it cannot happen to you.

I have found US based companies to have a higher level of customer service in general since they spend more money on training than their Canadian counterparts. But the recession has impacted most companies very badly. The UPS store in my area is in such a run down building that I was shocked when I went to collect a parcel. Also the board said pick up times are from 1 to 5 pm only. I went at 8:00 am and managed to talk to a van driver who asked me to go in and ask about my parcel and after verifying my identity they did give my parcel.

......

You were a victim of credit card fraud and not identity theft. Identity theft happens when someone assumes your name and identity and they apply for loans and credit cards.

That is right.

Banks will issue the loans without asking you to visit the bank and sign the necessary documents.

We are living in Canada which is a developed country. Personally speaking it is too much developed than it should.

Just and update. After I called UPS they emailed me an pdf document which reads

"According to our records 1 parcel was delivered on 10/18/10 at 12:07 P.M., and left at RESIDENTIAL.
The shipment was signed for by FIRST NAME as follows:

<<image ::: Initial of F N>> "

I changed the actual name to FIRST NAME here. So, I cannot make out who signed it UPS driver himself or someone else.

Also, this shipment required signatures, what does "and left at RESIDENTIAL." mean. Does it mean he left the shipment outside the home and signed himself.

UPS agent is unable to provide me any other infor after 24 hours as they have not started the tracing yet because of absence of request from the sender. I called the shipper they say that it is being processed in their back office.. after a very long talk and asking about their policies, time frames etc. Shipper call centre afent says they will know something after 96 hours..

now you guys tell me is this 96 hours are net hours (4 days) or they calculate the working hours (mean 12 working days) as the agent could not provide any answer to it... :( :(
