Surprising...the attendance was huge for opening and closing ceremony despite higher security due to govt officials. It must be more complicated to get tickets for those 2 days than any other normal day. Should this be an IPL event no matter how difficult it would have been, people would have paid multiple times to get tickets.
People are more interested in entertainment than sports. Again if bollywood joker would have shown up with his/her stooges people would have flocked to get tickets.
No matter how many execuses are there it still does not justify no-show by even minute percentile out of 22 Mil population.
And now there are expectation that Indian athelete to perform better in Asian/Olymopics...why such expectation if there is such a tepid response within India.

One has to agree that cricket is the most favored game in India by viewers.

" From Canada to New Zealand and from Africa to Australia, and closer home from Pakistan to Sri Lanka, commentators and officials showered praise on the conduct of the Games that at times looked like being called off."

Something different this time !!. They must have thoroughly enjoyed the food, hospitality etc and that speaks LOL.

I spoke to few of my friends and relatives in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Baroda etc.. it seems they were not even aware of this mega event - many of them did not even watch the opening ceremony on television, since they did not know about it.

I think the organizers believed that all the BAD PUBLICITY before the games was enough to let everyone in India know that these games were being played. No conscious effort was made to SELL the games to the public outside of Delhi.

I read about the difficulties in getting the tickets and even the great joker (SK, not SRK :D) admitted that they are fixing the issues - but seems they were not able to fix it till the end.

In my opinion the biggest achievement is that these were conducted without a single 'security' breach or terrorist incidence - not at all a small feat by any measure.

All in all - a very proud achievement.
