As far as water and electricity is concern I talked about areas not villages. And to see such areas you won't have to go very far... Between Orillia and Sudbury you can find many such areas. There are quite a lot pockets of (kind of) small villages with 10-15 ( or may be lil more) or so houses. Still these people use well water and Gas and wood.

Thanks and regards.

Out of curiosity what kind of villages are these? why are they in such remote areas? Are these reserves(though thats no reason why they should be going without what are essentials in Canada). Can you give us a little more background as to why they have no chioce but to remain in these areas? Thanks

Thanks for clarifying that Bio. You're not talking about an Amish enclave, are you? These are actually communities who prefer to live this way.

The reason I asked that is because I've camped in pretty remote parts of Ontario and even there they have electricity and water hookups for your tent-trailer. So I'd be very curious to know if there are actually villages or even communities who are living without water and electricity agains their will (again, I'm not talking abotu someone living in a remote jungle, they usually choose their lifestyle to be this way.)

So yes, if you do come across any who are forcibly living like this because of poverty (which was the context of the discussion), I'd be interested in knowing their names. I will find out more and personally write a letter to the govt. of Ontario about them if this is the case, I just find it very unfair that we're all wasting huge amounts of water and electricity here everyday while other "poor" people in Ontario don't have these.

During my next trip to that area I can arrange some names for you, if you want. Thats not a problem at all :)

Thanks and regards.

well there could be few far flung settlements like that , biomed will even go out and get the names but we should not miss the point which i made in my earlier post

The percentage of such people is not even 1% of canada's population.

these settlements in far flung countryside rely on ground water, gas, wood, generator for electricity . These are not even villages just a small flock of houses ( houses!! not a mud hut or jhonpri which would wash away in heavy rains).did you see any cars/vehicles in those settlements biomed ? and since you deal with Medical equipment, just curious what takes you to such areas. are your trips for fun or work related ?

And Biomed, are these people exremely poor and undernourished...just asking because we should compare apples to apples.

The percentage of such people is too small compared to 20% of india's polulation. (200 million people)

Comparing 5-10 such places in Ontario does not mean anything when we comapre it to the sheer magnitude to extremely poor people in india.
Biomed, please take a moment to read my earlier post again.

Thanks.

If this is the case than you just can not compare anything between India and Canada.:)

Thanks and regards.

Good, i think you are getting it now ...We can compare India and Canada but the disparities are too huge between our poverty levels and many other parameterss to even bring both countries at same level.

We are making big strides but we also have a long way to go ...

Even if we compare the number below poverty line :
if you say it is 16% for Canada ( approx 4.5Million people) ... the % below poverty line in India is 35% ( about 350 million people) .

Thats a difference of 345million people...about 10 times the population of Canada . in other words about 5% of human race lives below poverty line in india.

if you have time read this article
http://www.imf.org/external/pubs/nft/2001/crossrds/

our literacy rate is 52%..... Canada is 97% ....and we can go on and on in comparing but that is not the point.

i feel it will take decades of such 8% growths till we can compare Canada and india on same level even on % levels ...let alone on actual numbers of people below poverty.

India has a long way to go and hope it stay the course And I really hope I get to see that day in my lifetime.
