Hello all,

I am 46, and arriving alone in Mississauga next month. I would like to take any kind of job that I get, because I need to start earning ASAP.

I am Engineer with 17 yrs. functional experience in SCM and 3 yrs. implementation experience in SAP.

Can I expect any of below small time jobs with CAD 12 per hr. for the beginning ?

Security officer

Warehouse supervisor

Supply planner

I am open to work in any field, cos I need to start earning ASAP.

Any views ?

Regards

Sunil

Sunil , I hope with the help of a CD here ( sending you detials by PM ) , you should be able to atleast get a job in call centre which will pay you 12 $ or more . Please do not get sucked by these dead end jobs and be focussed .
I have no insight of your personal matters and hence cannot comment on why you need to start earning from the day one . If you can sustain for reasonable time than I will suggest you to spend your time to search for the job rather than wasting your time on the jobs that you have mentioned below. They will not take you anywhere and are good as a supplement income only .

Panditji,

You appear to be very smart and intelligent. You should start working immediately and not waste time looking for high end jobs, as they will call you for many interviews and sometimes takes 2-3months to finalize. Also you may find that your original line of work might require local certification or license. Once you are here you can consult immigrant welfare society and ask about it.

As for dead end survival jobs you need to pass exams and take license even for a security guard job. Its the easiest exam and license is not a problem. Since security is mandaotory by law for companies to claim insurance there will always be security jobs and you will be never short of work. As for warehouse, again you need courses, expereince and fork lift etc exprience. Try to find Indian owned businesses in Missisauga, and they are likely to take you in easily and train.

At your age you may find yourself competing with school freshers in jobs as these are no brainer jobs but dont think about it. Here there is no concept of respect or image asin India. A rich person here can't flaunt his wealth and possibly does all house chores by himself and may be living next door to a secutiy guard. Educated people are not respected here like in India and education is more about self-growth and knwledge rather than being successful or earning more.

However if you are making money here and paying your bills, you can always maintain agood credit record and get professional development loans easily.
Since you will be filing low tax you might also get grant from local govt to upgrade, try to find them.

Engineers as I know face second most harsh challenge of recognition by employers after Doctors. So set your goals right.Find the right course, the shorter the better and get into the search for that right job while you earn as well.

Take care.

Guys,

Thanks for your candid response. The Poll is alarming 6 nay and only 2 yeah.

I think, I need to wait till the sample space goes up to significant no.

My sincere thanks to all who responded so far. Their advise is certainly going to help me in making up my mind.

Warm Regards

Sunil

When you immigrate, you require a lot of motivation to go in the right direction. You are defeating this by creating the above poll. If you believe in the poll above where majority are saying you "will not get any job in any field," why bother even immigrating?
