At fault accident - please advise
I had an at fault accident in which I couldn't stop at a red light and hit another vehicle at the intersection.
No injuries.
I did not mention to the officer at the scene that the roads were slippery. (implies that his hand written report won't have this information)
The officer gave me a 175$ ticket Unser section 144(18), fail to stop signal with 3 demerit points.
1. I am told that if you go to court and just pleas guilty, 'automatically' the prosecutor offers you to just pay the fine only and takes off the demerit points. Is it true for my scenerio too?
2. What specific impact would the demerit points have on my insurance if they stay on my record for 2-3 years verses if I take them off.
3. Am I better off with paying money to the guys like Pointts or Ex-cop and let them handle it. Pointts came back to me with a quote of 500$ with no gaurantee even about getting off the points.
Please help

In which country this accident happened
Go to court and plead guilty and ask if your points can be taken off..
99% of the time it works..
Remember, pleading guilty is submission to charges and can reduce your demerit points (if you don't have prior history), but it will stay on your driving records for 3 years as major/minor conviction and still effect your insurance renewal in future, though the increase will be lower compared to guilty with demerit points. Hiring a paralegal like ex-cops or x-cooper will still result the same with more cost to you in way of thier fees.
For insurance, you are either guilty or not guilty - you need to defend yourself.. If you wish to contest for not-guilty, please hire a good referenced 'lawyer' not paralegal.
Good luck.

Thanks for the response.
The accident happened in Toronto downtown.
Does anybody has experience in going to the Toronto Court on Edward street?

I know this person who ran a red light & was caught by the Officer ... In the court ( and perhaps to the Officer also ) he pleaded that he was close behind a truck and could not see the light change .... though he agreed that he was following too closely .
He got off but he had not hit anyone ....
