The Biggest Battles
By:

Hi,

I’ve been in Canada for 7 years now and wanted to give you a perspective of my experience.

Even for a 24 yr old I was doing pretty well in India. Then I decided to immigrate and by a stroke of luck got my visa within 6 months of application, without an interview.

Piece of cake! Or so I thought.

I arrived with my wife, and went through the usual indoctrination period. This period lasted for 2 years and as usual I had my share of labor, security and other assorted dead end jobs. Then I went back to school (every landed immigrant can avail of a government secured loan after one year of landing), to try to get back into my own field (a niche industry with very few desis- 3d animation). After my studies I went back to the afore mentioned jobs again. I knew I had given it my best shot and kept sending out resumes whenever I could. After about 3 months I got a call from this company that relocated me to another province and basically changed my life.

Five years later I am in the same company, have a new house and am earning good money by any standards. I also have 2 beautiful kids and my wife has recently started her own business. I could not have planned better myself.

All this to say that, from what I know, it takes 1-2 years for any new immigrant to actually get a feel of how things are done in this society and then adapt yourself to the same. In the meantime do not hesitate to do what you have to survive. Every job, no matter how trying, has taught me something. Be it about myself or about people around me. The most important thing I want to mention the biggest battles I have ever fought were in my own head with myself. That is where I have won or lost. I have found out that staying positive is the key. It is difficult to do when the cards are stacked against you. However, it plays a great part in what is to follow.

I sincerely hope that everyone else has a similar opportunity to find out what a wonderful
Country Canada is.
