Hi all,

I had come to canada in the month of April and stayed for 5 months in Canada and Came to India in September.I had done my B.E and Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from India.I worked in India for about 2 years in MNC and in April I moved to Canada.Iam 27 and Single and I got immigration through my Dad who returned back with my Mom in one month since my mom did not want to live there. My younger brother is currently studying masters and he joined SEP 2009 and he has been living in Canada since April.Rest all of us are back here. After coming here in for 2 and a half months I was not getting any job made me depressed and I decided to comeback to Canada but this time I want to come with a concrete plan and I have started studying for GMAT and in the mean time I got a job in Mumbai itself.Anyways I have not given up my plan of doing MBA from a good university and Iam still studying for GMAT and instead of FALL 2010 iam thinking Fall 2011 since my brother would have finished his Masters.I want to know with 4 years of experience in good companies and with an MBA from a good university like Mcmaster,Schulich,Western Ontario,or even University of Alberta(of course depends on GMAT score),What would be my prospects,I have understood the life in Canada and I understand the difficulties there but Iam just thinking from a career perspective, will further education in Canada help me in overall career progression?and of course will it help me to get somewhat decent job in Canada(not the kind of job which I was doing when i came to canada in april like a call centre or some thing because I came back since i thought only education is an answer for further progress and I thought only by coming back I can get a better job in india and plan things in a better way for going back.Iam earning 40k INR pm here but yes iam doing night shifts since i support american investment bank live process and Iam looking at a long term vision of my career.I want to take next step with a little bit care, though my GMAT preparation is on Iam still a little afraid of stepping into this mode.

Last but not the least since Iam a PR of Canada but stayed outside canada lets say till Sep 2011 what are the chances of getting OSAP for my MBA or a loan from Canadian Bank?

Get through your GMAT Papers with flying colours. Then proceed as per your next move, based on this. Good luck in that. What you currently possess as educational qualifications though might help you in obtaining equivalent standing here, it is left to you to do the needful in obtaining the same. No one will take you to the door. You have to be the one to do it.

You are a PR in Canada. The fees that you will incur will be the regular amount. Some of the Educational Institutions might introduce you to their favourite Financial Institutions to obtain the student loans, with express understanding that you will repay such loans after completion of the courses as stipulated in their agreement.. Having no assets, they might ask for a secondary signature. It is left to you to find one such individual to stand behind you in this.

As for the OSAP and other loans, please see if the University has such loans made available to you there. If not, see the requirements, in the pre qualifications for an OSAP Loan.

You can come down and work at any job like before or if the University backs you in your application, look for suitable openings that they post for such students and the dean of studies will be your best guide in this, because they make sure that you are placed in a suitable position meeting with the cadre, and grooming you towards a post for which the education elevates you to. Their placement services takes care of it.

Vivek ,

The adage - 'Grass is always greener on the other side ' would not befit anyone more than you !!!

If I recall correctly when you were here , you were harping about a 50K job in India and yearning about all the goods of India ..... services labor better life style .... ( threads pasted below for reader convenience ) ...

At another time you were asking whether to relocate to PEI ..... and you never had the courtesy to update after taking valuable inputs from us .... Apparently it seems that you are just interested in taking in inputs and not giving anything back to the forum ..... Sorry for being blunt but each of your earlier threads are at least 4-5 pages long and you have left them in the middle w/o bothering to update as to what transpired .....

Now you are in India and you are yearning about the goods of Canada and wish to come back .... :) ... Make up your mind man , this flip flop attitude would not lead you anywhere I am afraid ....

First of all Iam sorry fido that I did not update about what happened to me,Yes I was planning to relocate to PEI when I got a job offer in Month of august but I felt that the job and company was not good for that. Then I was offered a job by the same company on a contract for 3 months and the company told that they would renew that again. But within 2 weeks they were losing clients and they told me that they apparently cannot provide me with more hours.Imagine the same thing would have happened in PEI I would have been no where. So I guess I took a right decision by deciding not to move to PEI.I was doing 2 jobs during the time when I was employed by this company for 2 weeks. This was all in the month of August when these things happened.I wanted to do further studies in canada but i thought I wont have enough time, money and resources to concentrate and study on GMAT etc + i would have lost 1-2 years of my career in the process of doing odd jobs since I was working for one of the top investment banks in India. So I gave lot of thought and decided I will go to India and try to give GMAT from there and in the process if I get a good job then I it would be a good thing because it will further improve my profile.I left canada because I thought I was not justifying my MBA in India. So again Iam sorry FIDO,for not updating my moves. It is really painful for any person to do these things please understand this, and lot of hard earned money is involved.I was just asking this to know whether this move will be atleast somewhat better than just coming the way I came..so finally my question was to just know whether MBA in Canada help me in long term if not short term in canada and does canadian education from a good university (not community college) help ?

Thanks for the update ... Nice to learn that you are doing good .

A North American degree would certainly help in a long term career esp when you come to senior jobs ... I assume in any part of the world as there s a common notion that NA education is better .

But a Q you might wish to answer is -- what would anyone gain to do the same course MBA twice ... if it is the same specialization ...

I would feel that there s less / nothing to loose by gaining education here ... it should be a wise decision .

Well the MBA which I did in India is first of all a PGDBA which most of the institutes in India offer and so its not a master's degree first of all.Secondly it was not from a top notch institue,it was from from a average B-school in mumbai which manages to give you a decent placement and placement is thats all I got.Knowledge and exposure wise I didnt feel I got much and I did not have understanding of shaping the career or what I want to do because I did PGDBA after my graduation. After working in corporate and investment banks I know what I want to do,I did PGDBA in marketing but now I want to do specialization in Project Management,Finance and these kind of specializations are available only abroad (ofcourse you get finance here too) but the exposure is far more,so these are the reasons for doing MBA again because I feel this would be a real kind of MBA unlike the PGDBA which I did earlier which was just extended graduation I felt in which one doesnt have exact understanding of corporate life and now i understand why north american bschools stress so much on work experience which I feel is really important before one does an MBA now
