My 11 yr old boy asked while the speech was on and i was speechless in the middle of a roaring laugh ...... thinking is modern age parenting tough or times they have changed already ??? the lesser we talk abt the movies the better ..... boy, it was a tough call.....
that also reminds me on the 24th midnight christmas mass my boy threw a bomb... Dad what is a Virgin ?? atleast 28 people were looking at me laughing , smiling and wondering how i was going to answer that question ????
nevertheless the movie was refreshing just like Dil Chahta Hai (the treatment is same as DCH, flashback..and common thing in between the 2 movies is amir khan !!!)
Movie is "A" certificate rated.

My kids are not yet 11 but they are 6 and they are asking questions now, they watched Titanic with us and I had the same embarrassment when the scene where Rose's picture is drawn by Jack came, I forwarded the scene as we were at home but still kids saw a glimpse and said Mumma, she's shame-shame. I explained them that she can change clothes before Jack because she loves him and vice versa, at home you guys also run around naked because you know it is home and we are around our love ones but we don't do that in friend's home.....I really tried and think they understood. For the above questions I would have tried in this way
Balatkar- to take someone's dignity, to rip it off in a rude way, to shame someone (you don't have to say rape or link it to that, this is a subtle way of explaining).
Virgin- Someone who is Pure in thoughts and body, link this to Purity.
I'm sure within few years they'll have these answers own their own but we all can try to give them interpretations and steer their thinking in a positive way. Being a parent is the toughest job in the world!

Perhaps I am the odd one out here. Just came from watching the movie and plainly put - the movie sucks big time.
The concept is interesting - as I have personally been through the circumstances - parental pressure as well as pressure of studying in engineering. However, it is the script and direction that is a complete letdown
The movie never takes itself seriously. It continuously tries to switch from serious to comedy mode. Maybe producers thought that making a comedy movie might be well suited to make moolah. The issue of suicide among students, the way parents and teachers manipulate students, the concept of choosing ones own career - all this points are touched upon briefly but are never explored completely. The movie is all about an overwise super-intelligent know-it-all Aamir Khan. Luckily, the movie has only two songs, but even those two songs could have been completely avoided. And why does the director chooses to put so much melodrama in the movie? Bucketful of tears are shed by all the characters.
Even in 2010, we get a stereotype of a whimsical professor who sports a weird hairstyle, wears ill-fitting clothes and talks with a lisp. The lisp might have worked in "Kaminey" but plainly irritates in this movie. Take the character of Kareena out and you can still have a complete movie. The whole movie could have taken 2 hours but is stretched like a chewing gum to 160 minutes. And fart jokes are not funny.
The loopholes are aplenty. How can a man born in 1978 would still be in a college in 21st century? Kareena is a doctor who chooses to date an engineering student. When modern medicine fails, just saying a buzzword revives a dead baby - are we watching 3 idiots or jai santoshi maa? The college campus is full of cars waiting to be harvested of their batteries.
But hey, it the movie is raking millions in box office, so who is complaining. I would go watch "Dev D" and "Kaminey" once again, just to see some intelligent filmmaking.

You are the first one who is criticizing the movie. I didn't like it myself.
I read Chetan's book back in 2006 and just loved it. Finished it up in one train journey in India. It was almost addictive.
And I was expecting the movie to be at least as interesting if not more. But boy... I was disappointed.
Having said that, I won't trash the movie either. It was just about alright. Could have been so much better though.

Now this one is close to my heart... Why does it sound impossible to you. I've had a girl friend who was working as an intern after finishing up her medical studies...while I was still an engineering student.

I don't know why I feel this movie was a cocktail of Dil Chahta hai and Munnabhai MBBS. Deja vu I guess.
Overall well made movie. Doing extraordinary business. However can't beat Tare Zameen Par.
