As Patrick pointed out, DSC is the deffered Sales charge.
It generally starts around 5-6% in the first yr and reduces at 6-7 yrs.
and Low load generally is about 2-2.5% .. its generally about 2-3 yrs.
There is another type of charge which is in between the DSC and the low-load, which is generally about for 4 yrs, but not all companies offer it.
Hope it helps

BTW, both DSC and low load are applicable not just for RRSP but for mutual funds held in any type of account.
Just pointing out since your subject title said RRSP....

Look for an advisor who takes investments of your hard earned money at 0% charge. No DSC (deferred sales charge), no low load.
Some advisors who have a large amount of assets under administration will take money at 0% as they are paid by the fund company, so no charge to you, so that whenever you wish to take the money out you are not penalized. You don't have to wait for the 3 year term or 7 year term or whatever. You can take out the money after 3 months even and no charge to you.
Just for your info
Very bad experience with one mutual fund agent.
His commission important than clients.
