ILOVENA, let me address your above point with a latest link and data. Please know that the world is changing at a faster pace, let alone India.

That being said, please read through this interesting link:

http://www.findingdulcinea.com/news/education/2009/jan/Indian-Students-Avoiding-US-Universities-as-Economy-Takes-Toll-on-Schooling.html

It is actually the other way round now. An excerpt:

"In November 2008, the U.S. Department of State reported record high numbers of Americans studying abroad and international students studying in the United States. The State Department claims to have “been actively promoting this growth,” and supporting programs such as The Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship and the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, which help American students pursue international educational opportunities."

Prime reason to earn dollars not for higher education alone. Don't allow students to settle in NA after higher education and force them to return back, u will hardly find anyone to come here for education. Education is still best in India.

Arright accepted. Please list the inventions what our Indian universities have achieved in

1. Medical science.
2. Physics.
3. Business and Management.
4. Aviation / Transportation.
5. Space research.

My point is not that the Indian universities are not up to the mark but the education and universities in North American and European countries seem to go way ahead of their Indian counterpart.

Just came across this article
http://www.hindustantimes.com/Eight-most-prominent-Indian-CEOs-in-US/H1-Article1-489527.aspx

Read the punch line that relates to this topic
“Of all the immigrant groups coming in today, Indians are head-and-shoulders above others, and this is partly because of their English language skills and also the advanced education that many of them are bringing to the US.

As far as inventions are concerned it not totally dependent upon education only. You need financial support and facilities which mostly come from government or other sponsors.

I might sound naive but I thought Univs were for education , not inventions / research .....

Pardon me if things continue the way they are with outsourcing , time is not far away when NA education would not be able to get you jobs ... Didn't the US Prez say that the Americans need to upgrade their education system since the Indians and the Chinese are coming .....

I know jobs / outsourcing is as irrelevant here as is inventions / research but the bottom line remains .... that due to the competition and the environment generated due to it the tendency to study hard on an average is much higher in India ...... We may have few researchers / inventors in NA / Europe but India / China are still the production centers of the world ( fast turning out to be ) ... costs may be is the factor but as much is skills & education .

No not really, it makes sense to me but again it is one perception.
But I strongly disagree with the disassociation between Universities / research, I see there is a very tight relationship between them.

You know it is the result that really matters. I think who made the comment else where that the Indian education systems makes excellent workers (this is inline with your comment about the production center) and I am in complete agreement, but the buck stops here.

I understand it is to do with sponsors and Govt support that India lacks but look from a business perspective. Its the end result that really matters.

I see we just need to accept it. I still don't see any measures have been taken by India to compete with the neighbor. Near future challenge is on the way while India continue to feel complacent about the achievement so far.
