hey all,

i've seen many lucky people getting their doubts cleared here.pls be kind enough to help me also.
i'm currently in india and wish to do a mba in canada. i've got an admission in university of new brunswick,st. john & dalhousie university, halifax. i want to know how much recognition these two universities have in canada. how good are the prospects of finding a good job after the mba.

thanks

Hi veer
First of congrats that u got admission in MBA in many canadian universities. Regarding the decision to come here for MBA there are following points to be considered (not in order of importance):
1. How much money you can spend
2. What you are presently doing
3. Whats the value addition by doing MBA frm canada
4. Chances of getting PR and job in canada
5. Why canada and not alternative destinations like USa or austalia or UK

Now For money part i think if you have around 6-10 lac then dont worry for money, if less then that then reconsider ur decision.

If you are presently in good job in india then dont leave it bcause
1 future is totally uncertain here
2 ur work ex in india will not have any weightage here
3 chances of getting PR very limited as there is long waiting time after u apply(2 yrs at present) if u qualify and otherwise u have to wait for 2 yrs to bcome eligible.
4. Job situation very tight i know ppl doing MBA frm U of sask, Citizens but no jobs still.

NOw regarding value addtion the universities in which u have got admission r almost of same rank that is middle rank in canada and low ranked in MBA in the world. i will suggest to u doing MBA in india in IIMs or ISB bangalore (cost is more 15 lacs but here also u spend around 8 lacs) their mean salary is 80,000 rs/month so assured future.

USA is no doubt No1 as it has best of business schools and also it offers jobs to international students after their education is over which is entirely absent in canada .

i have given u all the info but the decison is urs and dont expect roses here. canada is good for education and u may get job PR etc but probability is low. but we all take chances and i have also taken the same by coming here.
regards
pankaj

hey pankaj,

thanks a lot. ur advice was very helpful.i've heard that getting a PR from newbrunswick is easier & faster than the rest of canada. is it true. i've heard it takes around 8-10 months only.
u said that indian workex doesn't hold any value here. does it hold good if u have experience in a global company. i've been workin with "Thomas cook"(forex department) for last 2 years.
IIMs and ISB are no doubt the best but gettin admission there is very difficult. this is my profile

GMAT 600
TOEFL 253
WORKEX 2 YRS
UG BA Economics (Gold medalist)-DG Vaishnav college(Chennai)

for this combination can i get an admission in a better univ in canada?
i'm appearing for my 2nd year MA Economics(full time) now.

one last doubt, after an mba from univ of newbrunswick and a canadian PR can i try for a job in the U.S. and what is the approx. average pay an MBA earns in canada?

thanks again.

hi
actually i dont have any idea abt PR frm new brunswick, it may be faster. if the duration of program is 2 yrs then its fine and secondly just go to http://www.cic.gc.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK and see wheather ur eligible for PR right now. if yes then come here and apply. if not then u have to wait for 2 yrs then u will bcome eligible. so choice is urs and yes PR frm canada can try for jobs in usa. Regrding job experience i also have work ex in MNC for 1.5 yrs but still if i apply for jobs here the employers insist on canadian work ex just go through different posts on this site u will come to know. there r ppl who have global work ex i.e many countries and still struggling to make living here. so it depends on luck and oppurtunity and also how much u can bear. average salary will be around 5-60,000 $ / annum but u should get job for that.
i m not discouraging u but when i was in india i used to feel the same way and asked similar questions as u r asking so i know what ppl feel abt canada in india but actually its quite different here thats why i reply to almost all messages frm pl frm india so that they know the situation bfore coming here. so once again job chances very dull may have to survive on labour jobs for a long time even after completion of MBA abut PR u should know better than me. so ur decison
ISB is in hyderabad and not in bangalore im sorry for the mistake.
regards
pankaj

and yes PR frm canada can try for jobs in usa.
pankaj

I do not think that is correct. As a PR in Canada, you cannot work in the US unless your employer is willing to sponsor your H1B or whatever. What I mean is that being a PR in Canada does not give you any extra advantage over say being in India and applying for a job in the US from there. It is only after you get your citizenship that another avenue, the TN-visa, is made available to you for working in the US.
