Franklin Templeton Investments is currently looking for a Sr Systems Engineer (Capacity Planning and Modeling) for our North York office.


This position will be reporting to the VP of Infrastructure Platform Engineering and working very closely with the Technical Architect as a lead position in the capacity planning and modeling area. This is a new role within the team and will be responsible for implementing a new service globally to proactively identify, communicate and plan opportunities to leverage existing capacity as well as predicting future needs based on trends, project demands and business growth (short and long term). The capacity management and planning resources ensure that the IT capacity in all areas of IT always exist and is matched to the current and future needs of the business in a timely manner.

The Sr Systems Engineer, working with the technical systems analysts within the capacity planning team, will be responsible for analyzing and synthesizing data collected and proactively communicating and publishing key metrics, dashboards, capacity plans, forecasts and recommended actions. The proactive communication and information sharing will provide for sufficient lead time for the application and infrastructure teams to take action (i.e.: optimization/tuning, consolidation, upgrading and provisioning of infrastructure and computing capacity) and flow into the solution design process.

Additional responsibilities include:


Design and build the infrastructure, tools, procedures and documentation to deliver the defined services
Leverages reports and data produced through steady state capacity & performance services and IT capacity demands required from projects in the pipeline, to predict and model the IT capacity and performance needs
Serves as a focal point and works with all IT teams to gather information to contribute to the capacity plan and any predictive modeling and forecasting
Produces capacity plans for mission critical applications which include the business scenarios and forecasts, IT capacity forecasts, assumptions, solution options, and recommended solution and costs to meet the IT capacity demands
Ensures capacity plans are produced in a timely manner to support budgeting and funding cycles as well as with sufficient lead time for procurement of components, hardware upgrades and provisioning of additional computing services
Performs application and service sizing to identify the appropriate IT capacity required
Collaborates with the steady state capacity and performance team to create baselines to be used in modeling
Lead efforts to evaluate, plan and establish tools, procedures and processes to improve capacity management and planning practices
Assists as a tier 3 resource in providing additional insight for root-cause analysis of capacity issues
Creates and presents capacity plans and solutions to Sr management and different IT departments to gain buy-in and approvals on recommendations
Candidate must have proven track record in performing in the responsibilities outlined above, successful implementation of a capacity planning practice and framework delivery and experience in a global and distributed team



As the qualified candidate you possess:

B.S. Computer Science or equivalent
At least 7 years in a similar position
Possible domestic/North America travel
