Those who are holding OCI card when travelling to India are advised to carry their old Indian PP's with them.

Check this news.

There is no need to carry old indian passport (though you can for just in case scenarios) but you MUST carry the passport on which OCI is stamped.

CGI Toronto has this message displayed very prominently now http://www.cgitoronto.ca/ovrseasreg/overseasreghome.htm

Looks like this guy has written articles to many newspapers, websites, etc., though it was his own fault not to carry proper documents.

rajcanada is right. Canadian passport with OCI stamped must be there along with the OCI card. I have gone number of times after getting OCI, without Indian passport. No one has asked so for. Its not valid anymore.

It is a garbage rule..

Carry a passport and OCI card is ok.. , carry ur old passport that has the stamp and carry OCI card is a bad rule..

Guy is at least raising voice to some bad arbitrary rule that our Indian govt has put..

Sorry but it seems you did not read the news properly ... it was not his old "Indian" Passport ... but his old "US" passport which had the OCI visa stamped on it .....

The point Pandit drives at is that the government had announced that holders of OCI/PIO cards do not require any other visa to enter India -- therefore, as per rules he was not bound to carry his old passport, containing the Indian visa.

Pandit reached Kolkata on June 20 on a Singapore Airlines flight, and when he showed his US passport and the OCI Card, the immigration officer asked for the visa -- which, in this case, was attached to his expired passport

so you need a card AND a visa.
i know rules are rules but it doesn't make a sense.
card should be enough.
and since OCI is life-long it basically means you need to retain an old, worn out expired passport with the OCI visa on it forever.
i know this guy should have read the rules and it's his fault but the rules are stupid.
i think there is a gap here between the letter of the law and the intent of the law.
