The state of Karnataka was ravaged by floods due to the heavy rains in the last few days. Aid is pouring in from the ordinary janata in the state. Excerpts from the article:
“Even members of the general public gave generously. An old woman took out a wad of currency notes from her saree palloo and with a smile put them into the donation box carried by Minister Suresh Kumar. A coconut vendor parted with Rs 150 and a middle-aged man gave away his gold chain.”
“The contribution came in cash and kind, from the rich and the not-so-rich, the young and the old. Thousands queued up along the narrow roads of Balepet and Chikpet ….”
“The figures speak for themselves. While the Centre’s contribution towards relief efforts in the flood-ravaged north Karnataka is Rs 52.26 crore, the people of the State, moved by the plight of millions, have so far donated Rs 500 crore.”
.... on the other hand some politicians and big contractors are fighting to grab the contracts to fix the roads, houses etc., They are not letting the small contractors/government departments to do the work. They are even stopping the emergency work, destroying the machinery and threatening those who are trying to do the work.
That is what going on in our first home.

A contractor in AP got kidnapped yesterday who got Rs.6 crore contract to help the people who lost houses. It seems it is executed by the people of local politician.
God only save poor people in India.
