Right after 911 , every time i used to cross the border to mexico on my way back they used to make me wait for 1 hr , take a finger print and let me through..

I was not stopped because of my last name or religion, but because of regulation... I never complained because i was a guest of the country...

SRK should just suck it and shutup. Just because u are a star does not give u special treatment..

I just hope on his way home he is stopped for 5 hrs for making so much noise..

I don't get all this SRK bashing, though I am not a Bollywood tracker.

A person entering USA is detained for secondary screening. He is asked what he does, who he is visiting and purpose of his trip.

He gives his answer. What other answer can he give other than that he is an actor, travels frequently to USA for making films and shows. I was not in the room with him, but am certain he did not try any Bollwood diologues...

He is not believed by the immigration officer apparently, not given access to his cellphone, and only later allowed to make a call to get help to the Indian consulate.

Would anybody not be disturbed or upset? How about any of the folks airing their views here? Ever been for secondary screening?

This is not to question secondary screening, but the way in which the secondary screening information is set up.

The fact that he is SRK is incidental to the process. His relative fame makes this a case for publicity, no doubt.

Their is no SRK bashing.

"It's such behaviour that fuels hatred and racism,'' it quotes actress Priyanka Chopra on her Twitter feed. "SRK's a world figure for God's sake. Get real!''

He is a "world" figure only in India. This CULT culture of VIP, VVIP needs to end.

Rules apply to all. Yes, you too, SRK.

US government job is to keep Americans safe. No more 9/11.

That should be its ONLY priority.

No, it would be nonsense. Same here. All with last name as Khan to be interrogated? Whether it’s SRK (I am no fan of his) or Dr. Kalam, it’s the stupidity and arrogance of the staff (with a high school education). “Doing their duty” is just a facade to escape the mistakes they do.

Just curious. Do the Canadian immigration officers interrogate all visiting Moslems or with last name as Khan? So far I have not seen anyone being taken aside and interrogated in Montreal, Toronto or Ottawa.

Neither American Immigration Officials nor Canadian Immigration officials interrogate all visiting Khans.. This whole incident is blown out of proportion. 1000s of Muslims arrive in to US on daily basis; they don’t stop each and every one. We must appreciate their efforts to protect their country regardless their educational background. They have every right to defend their country.
We have very well educated Officers in India but still they cannot stop or prevent terrorist attacks though they do harass innocent and common citizens on regular basis , so what is the use of so called highly educated officers.

The Indian government is not focused on protecting their people from terrorist attacks

Right now the focus and attention is preserving their VVIP and VIP status.

People in India are fixated on the so called "VIP, VVIP, & VVVVIP" status and so forth. On one hand they talk about being the next "economic super power" (when millions of children go blind on account of malnutrition). Then they are unable to come out of a master-slave mentality, where they worship ordinary mortals as demi gods (read "bollywood actors & cricket players";).

People there use their heart instead of their head. So much emotion that it clouds rational thinking. Absolutely fine with India, because after all, they make the rules for the country. I remember when I lived in Madras (to me it will always be "Madras";)..... we would be stuck in traffic for hours because "Amma" would pass that way with her entourage of 20 or 30 cars! Not a single soul would say a thing for fear of being beaten up, by her fans and followers. Then at the airport flights would be delayed because some minister or MLA would turn up late...... no one can say a thing because they are our real masters (and not God).

And now this sharukh khan thing. What is a "VIP", I ask? How is he different from the rest of us?........... besides why should the US government treat him differently, because he is some "international star"? Probably, we can never get any real answers because it will takes hundreds of years before we can get out of the master-slave mentality in India.......... and now he says he "wont ask the US government for an apology!

The drama never ends........... for millions of Indians who are sick and hungry, this should make them forget their woes!

My question remains: Has any of the OPs been through a rough experience at a border, any border?

The fact that some procedures are now necessary does not make them pleasant to experience, especially if they are based on a system that needs improvement.

IMO, SRK is not claiming he should be treated like a star here. He was basically asking for his rights. The fact that those rights are taken from others in the name of screening does not make it OK to suggest he should be given another such experience....

Guests in a country do not have any rights. The only right they have is human rights. I don't think that was violated. Americans have all rights to protect their country at any cost. They have done so by violating humans rights too. Khan should thank them that his human rights were not violated.
