How important is Canadian education to get a decent job

Well, I am new on this forum and 1 yr old in Canada, recently I relocated to GTA.

There are many Job search centers in Toronto, many counselors talk about Canadian education, but personally i feel it's not going to make significant difference unless i get education in licensed field or a Technical field

I did my masters in marketing from India(from one of the best schools) and I know it's hard to get a professional job in marketing area because I am not white and I don't have Canadian accent

But if i go for a 1 yr course from like George/Seneca college etc, will it make any difference, My total work experience is 5 years

What you guys feel !

Looking to make new friends here, I speak Hindi/English and I am originally from Goa, India

Ok. Now that's no good attitude. Not going to help you anywhere.

I do not totally disagree. But keep in mind, this statement itself indicates that you are throwing away your weapons before starting the war. There are desi who have "fought" over 10 yrs. They are my inspiration, mentors.
Please don't give up so easily just because of some color or some accent. It's a tough barrier. But it's only you (and ONLY you) who can prove yourself.

Back to your question, yes, education will for sure help you. Probably, other CDs can help with where and whats of education.
My dad used to say: No matter what, no matter which. Education never goes wasted.

I agree with sville that Canadian education will help.

You need to be more specific with respect to your area of expertise.

I worked as a counsellor before... getting Canadian diploma/degree etc was the only solution me and my colleagues could give every new immigrant who was looking a job. There is no effective solution for discrimination faced by all immigrants here, except write to MLAs and other Govt. regulatory bodies.

Internally, we all believed and knew that.. yes, the Canadian employers are being biased by not recognising your international credentials in non-regulated fields. But since the Govt. is turning a blind eye to this all, the only way is to follow what many are doing, pay again into the system (colleges and Universities) to regain education. Since its a circle, the people feed it and keep it going on.

The recently appointed Ontario Fairness Commissioner has been appointed to look into the discriminatory practises, but let me tell you, the process has no teeth.
Thinking about a new career can help ( people change careers even in their 60s), since education isn't exactly cheap in terms of money and also time.

Only advise, keep ur options open....

Do a proper degree or a certification.

I would like to know if certification in technical trades will help in getting started in a career. If I am ready to start a step lower than what I was in middle east do you think I can get started. I am asking this since I saw a vacany of maintenace & engg manager in an Industry, ( I hold such a position in the middle east currently). But the pre requisite was that the person should have License in any of the electrician/mechanic/millwright trades and five years experience.
If so what is the procedure to get certified

As you mention that you have total 5 years of work experince, in your case getting Canadian education might help, but no one can say anything for sure.
