Hello everyone
Interesting discussion.
Like all other immigrants I too had one helluva time in Canada before sneaking in a comfortable job.
I guess the information available to folks planning to leave india to settle here is extremly limited. Looks like we can get some info about immigration but none whatsoever on what happens when you land here.
As I went thru hell myself and have leant quite a few tricks since then, I am planning to make a small informative pay site for highly educated iimigrants from third world countries about the ground conditions here, how to find jobs and what to expect upon arrival.
Does anyone know of any such website or service at present??
Is this kind of info available at all anywhere?
Please advise.

Hey u are on that site buddy, This place is where u get a lot of info on wat u want. Dont u think its a good site to get info???? any how good luck with ur plan all the best. Consider not charging yar. Pls also consider showing actual fact of life here in Canada, I accept u have to struggle initially but this fact is not disclosed to people coming here, they are promised a lot (all false) they come with so much dream and they really suffer a lot before they establish themselves. Some people dont wana listen to u but its ok who ever listens let them and they have to research well before they make a crucial decision on their life.

Hi guju_canadien,

You had said there's a link/listiing of the agencies from this site itself. I wasn't able to locate them. Could you please provide any links if it exists.

Also, by agencies are you referring to place like Robert Hall, and places like that.

Thanks.
- Sid

Yo Desi's (CBCD's and FOB's).. greetings to ya.
Just want to share my experiences with other folks of my field. I will soon complete my Ph.D in Electrical & Comp Engg.. If you are seeking any IT job here in Canada... think again. Its very very very tuff to get such jobs here. Any IT professional from India, who want to immigrate to Canada... I would advise think again...
The same thing goes for ppl in Petroleum engineering.. Calgary was a hot place, but not anymore. My friend (PR of cos) was laid off and was not able to find a job again... So if you think you can get a job after coming here.. Think again..
Please do a lot of research work...abt this before you even apply for Immigration.
I for my part will be going back to India, cos IMHO all the stuff is happening here.. Bangalore (form where I come) is da place to be...

Any other desi's having similar experiences, suggestions etc. pls do post your views.

IT situation seems to be improving slowly but don't expect return to glory days... overexuberance finally getting to reality.

Finding first job after graduation or immigration is always difficult everywhere.

Mostly development happening in Bangalore -> low-skill, low-wage, non-critical stuff . But if development you want to do then go to India > China > Indonesia, etc. whereever development jobs are moving from NA.

IT is lot more than just development! Build a technical skillset which can only be delivered physically at customer site then your chances of getting IT job in NA are high Or stay in the realm of non-dev stuff in IT.

Petroleum Eng. is a very wide field. Demand is high in certain area like exploration but you have to go to remote sites.

At the end of the day, flexibility is key. You have to compromise somewhere or on something. There is no job specially created to match your requirements unless you create it yourself.

Yo Anil, you are right
I live in Ottawa and am familiar with the stuff here. Can you believe it... even CRC doesnt have money to fund a post-doc proposal that I presented. !
I agree IT is much more than what I mentioned above. Of cos.. I am ore into Research than development...Anyone in my field of work, India, or anywhjere outside Canada... thats the place to be... Maybe the USA.. I heard you dont need H1B if you are a Canadian citizen !
Europe (minus UK) is a good prospect .
