Thanks Garvo to clarify

Well as long as u post good site its good enough for ppl...

may be u can also allow ppl to put comments or feedback on perticular sites ( kind of VOTE) u can figure out

but dont make it so easy that ppl start posting crap and u have to go clean them often. make some kinda rules or etc...

I KNOW HOW HELPFUL THIS WILL BE CAUSE.. right now i m in process of finding job and there is so much matrials available but half of them are not useful. so by reading comments from other CD's at least gives us idea which site has more chances

I use these the most.

So you are saying all the 4 sites above have real jobs that employers post, monitor and respond to?
I'm tired of sites that contain mostly dummy jobs posted by staffing companies building up their resume banks or simply trying to meet some quota.
I need sites that companies actively use.
and what do you mean you use these the most? How often do you look for jobs?

The strategy I've learnt would work the hard way if you do not have contacts in Canada is to make a target list of companies.

Let us say you are an Accountant or Custom Broker. Your target company for will be for eg:FEDEX.

You should not reveal all your qualification and somehow get into the door with any job.

Once you are in and are known to people around you should all the dirty job for 6 months and build your network within the company.

Then you should start applying for all the internal postings and as you are an employee with all the qualifications you'll be the first guy to be hired as most of the companies have a policy of "Promoting from Within".

This way you'll protect your seniority, pension pay and also your vacations.

I agree contact is very important

but i am not fully agree with Vandematram on his point of view.

how do i start working for company has labor job hoping for better future ? i may have to work years to get to promote.. beside being qualified person i dont wanna waste my time working as labour job. ( unless i hv no job and i am starving)..

i would try hard to apply different places then getting stuck with one company doing labor job.

I respect your frustration, but your post sounds as if you are venting it out on the poster. If you need sites that companies actively use, it is your responsibility to look for one. People who post info on CD do it based on their most positive (or vice versa) experiences and/or knowledge. You could try those sites and if they are not beneficial, then time to move on to what you think is best for you.

I do agree with you that a lot of sites these days appear to have become part of resume collection. In my experience, I also believe recruiters are absolutely useless.

However, if you do look in jobbank and indeed (the two I can speak about), apart from limited "bogus" jobs, there are plenty of jobs posted by employers themselves. Recent examples from my search are RIM, GE, CNH, Loewen, Boeing, 3M, Kraft Foods, and many more. I am not in IT.

I may add that Morning Rain is in a profession that involves assisting jobseekers, hence MR may have used these sites numerous times.

Yes I use all four sites *the most* when I am working with my clients. I do Vocational Rehabilitation, which is similar to Employment Counselling.

edited to mention: I dont use workopolis or monster at all, as I find Workopolis very ontario based and the jobs appear to be either recruiting companies or upper management positions (im not sure if they are legit as I have never needed to verify this) and monster.ca used to be a very good site but over the years seems to have lost its value.

Dont make the internet the main basis of your job search. This is because everyone else is doing the same thing. Pick up the yellow pages and cold call companies. Ask if they are hiring. Make a list of companies and check out their websites. if there is nothing on the job ad saying "no calls please" call them! Ask if they are still hiring.

Thanks for the explanation.
I did not know you were in the employment profession, so you will know best about job sites.
To dimple2001: I wasn't venting any frustration at morning rain, simply asking her to clarify her post further which she did.
i will try out those sites
