Hi,
I think you should not resign or pack up your establishment in India for Canada.
I am 51 years old. I want to have immigration (Just to see North America, Have extended 4 to 6 months leave but not to live) for my daughters university education.
My calculations says that total cost of immigration is much less than 4 years of university education as international student.
Moreover degree from UOT is much better than UOPune.
Canada is for young immigrants? Who can struggle and get established there.
Definetily not for 45+ age group.
However go there live there for few months and then come back?
Do not resign or leave your job.
Regards
Thankyou all desis, for responding to the thread
I wanted to know what exactly are the "labour jobs" is it same like coolies in India or the work done by hamals of lifting the heavy gunny bags, or which involves lot of physical activity.
Yes, you are correct. Labour jobs involve physical activity, some jobs are light and some are heavy. Some examples of labour job: Loading/unloading of goods from trailers, stacking goods, putting labels on goods, packaging of goods, moving goods from one part of warehouse or factory to another.

Canada...another name for struggle in life!
Daniel,
there are also jobs like bottling in factories etc that do not always require such physical labor. However, it is work that we Indians(southasians) usually look down upon. Here, as long as you can pay your bills the kind of job you do does not matter to people except yourself. You have to ask yourself if you hav ethe mentality to accept those kind of jobs if you have to.
The idea is not to dissuade anyone from coming here...rather it is to help reflect on your reasons to come here. See my recent reply to ivansuz

NO, for the reasons above........and I saying this even though I am much younger than you.

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
Daniel if you are making 45K in India and you wife another 15K then you can have a comfortable life in India. At 47 going on 48 it is bit late to start a new life in a country where i may say the opportunities are not the greatest. This is definitely not a 'land of milk and honey'.
Why not come alone and try to see for yourself how the situation is. It is going be hard to make a judgement on what Canadiandesi members have advised you although most of it is true.
Canada is not going to get better in the near future, the health system is going to deteriorate and so will all the other benefits like old age pension, etc.
If you think you could raise your kids like you do back home you will be sadly mistaken. Kids have more rights here that they do in India. In India you can control your kids till they are married, here alas !!
I am sure you are making a decision of immigrating to Canada because of your children future. Will it be the right one, only time will tell.
For us who have already stepped into Canada it has been a time of frustration and despair and a fight to survive in order to have a comfortable life. There is no way one can save unless you keep cutting some ends because the system is such that it some how takes all you earn whether in taxes or your own expenses or any other way.
Some people i know came here with a reasonable sum of money and have now ran into credit cards debts.
Remember Canada is cold more than half the time of the year. For someone much older it is hard to get used to the severe winters. This is very depressing.
Who know it may be good for you and your family.
Sometimes success like in the risk you have not taken.
