Hello all,
I kind of had this question in mind. The guy worked in security job should have made atleast 2500 to 3000 CAD a month and when he moved to this tech job he might make a 1000 more I guess as a starter. Assuming these figures are right, all of the guys (NO OFFENSE PLS) are so disgusted with the blue collar jobs because of what ?
a. Indian stereotyping of jobs and an illusioned dignity that indians stick with every job
b. Some blue collar jobs may be hardwork invovled. (But tell you what most of them are not!)
C. Social status: saying to our indian clan in canada and back in home that I make 4000 bucks as a analyst in so & so fortune 50 company when it is the same financially as working as a manager in departmental stores on commission basis to manage the store!
D. Any other reason
E. All of the above.
Please let me have some inputs as Im a starter up here in canada and want to know from PROS. I didnt mean to offend anyone and any response with info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Canada_thatstamil
PS: Im sorry if you think Im duplicating the post but my previous post was a response to a question dated a month back and thought people might still not be check it. So decided to have the question/post as a fresh one!
Hi That's Tamil in Canada,
I too am a tamil in Canada for 6 or 7 years.
There is dignity in labour in Canada but there is stark difference in labourious work in Canada.
For example, A labourer might be eventually getting the same salary as a software engineer but he would be doing very very hard work. To sum up, all the easy work is taken up by Canadian born and educated people while the job that no one wants to do (like security, labour job, Pizza delivery, Taxi driving, Fork lift operation, Machine operator position) is occupied by mostly immigrants. this is just a sort of generaliasation. many Indian software engineers and Financial people are very professionally employed in this country for sure.
The other catagory is the real estate people who cater to a sector of the poppulation based on their home country background. for eg. a Sudanese RE agent will mostly have Sudanese clients. So here, you are treated equal to a Cdn. born and educated person, in the sense that both do the same work and get the same commission. due to competition, a RE extate agent may offer your $2000 to the owner of the house for the property sold/ bought.
Most of the office jobs in Canada (barring IT and finance) are mostly off the bounds for immigrants. You need to know someone / have cdn. education/ be there at the right time/ do the right network etc.. to penertrate the field.
If you plan to study , i would encourage you to study IT or Finance or accounting as it is the most easy way to work at park with the locals (and not the natives)
Hope things are more clear for you now.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
It's never about "avoiding hard work". Trust me, anybody who is not going for any type of jobs just to avoid hard work, will never be good at anything he/she will get into.
Question: How do you define "blue" or a "white" job?
I understand "skilled job" and "non-skilled job". Skill gets sharper over time. Go for it. Could be anything - managing a subway, car wash, furniture painting, bridge designing, house building, interior designing, surgery, etc.
Now, if you can't improve over your skills, yes, that's a problem. Go fix it.
I don't want to be a cricket player and play for India-XI because it requires hard work.
How much truth does this statement hold?
That's exactly my point.
Besides this, it's never about money either - talking specifically about non-unionized jobs .
