I think it's time for specialized skill on top of just a sales skill.

A new economy, a new career
Selling foreclosed homes:
Former Occupation: Realtor
Current Occupation: Certified distressed property expert
Hometown: Scottsdale, Arizona

I have been in real estate since February, 2003. I work for RE/MAX but I'm self employed, as we all are in this business. Last year my income dropped 60%. The regular, normal market went away, so I had to reinvent myself to do new types of sales.

Because Arizona has such a huge foreclosure problem now, in order to sell anything I had to get educated about that market. I just earned my Certified Distressed Property Expert designation in April. The CDPE was a two-day certification process, now I have a very clear understanding of how to work the bank-owned market.

Almost 100% of what I do now are bank-owned and short-sale contracts. I help investors

I humbly request you don't do it.

I'm not a Realtor, but I'm worried for a few good one's out there.

There are good guys like Amit Kalia, Rajeev Narula and others who are in this business. They just do this for their living. This is their bread and butter. They live and breath Real Estate.

The statistics are heavily against you.

The only thing you will do is to screw up the market in terms of commissions, by cutting the commission to literally to nothing, offering half hearted service(as you are preoccupied with the other job) and hence the person who will suffer is your humble customer, that is me.

If this trend continues, you'll end up with realtors carrying signs on the side of freeway entrance, exits which read that \"Will Work for FOOD\".

Do you want this to happen?.

Please do not do anything half hearted and end of the day screw up for others.

Hope you understand my view point/perspective.

I completely disagree with this. I see you as ambitious, willing to work hard and trying to make best use of your time. You not stealing anybody's bread and butter. If someone wants to earn their bread, butter, jam... they have to be competetive, not from keeping people away from their profession. You are not screwing the market. This is a business and you are doing everything within the legal limits. As long as what you are doing is not illegal, immoral and unlawful, you don't have to worry about it. Don't be bothered by all these putdown comments. Just remember one thing: If you are good in what you do, only sky is the limit. If you have the apetiite to become a realtor, go for it. Hope you understand my view point / perspective.

One more comment, please find your niche market and stay away from 'Fish' market.... if you can find a niche like your medical client base and serve them and keep growing by taking baby steps. Learning, acting, improving cycle then you cannot fail !

Like as suggested by gktaurus you have nothing to loose, you will improve your public dealing or human skills at the least which will take you places !

Good Luck - Lage raho hashaa bhai !
