Without going into the ethics of it, how feasable is it to fudge one's resume in Canada?
I am planning to switch to IT field and according to folks who work in the industry, a minimum of three to four years will have to shown on the resume.
Most IT folks I have come across have done it at some point in their professional life in order to get their foot through the door(even Canadian born folks, though to a lesser degree).
My intended area of work is in Databases(Oracle, SQL-Server).
What issues should be considered in this minefield?
Background checks? Credit Checks(will it show where I have worked before?). References? HR checks(companies mentioned in the resume)?
I guess its now open season on CD! (runs for cover)
Quote:Both ORACLE and SQL Server are highly specialized areas (databases) and it will be very hard to talk your way through an interview without getting caught.

I believe in IT and other high technology field with better paying jobs, the issue of references is now being moved online to sites like linkedin etc.. These are places where employers tend to check your references and credibility. The better your profile backed by reviews/recommendations by colleagues, juniors and seniors, the more authentic and reliable the candidate seems.
In Canada marketing is the most important skill and even without real experience, the way you market yourself to your prospective employers makes or breaks your chances. Using these online profiles as your tools will give you better leverage and more mileage.
I am not in IT and this may or may not be the scene, but its my guess that it works that way.
Finally, BS can take you to the top, but cannot keep you there...
Good luck.

I must really appreciate you for asking some innovative ideas in this forum to support your cheating mentality. Instead, you should consider attending some IT courses that will help you in the long run. No wonder, employers are going crazy with all kinds of people applying for all kinds of jobs.
gktaurus,
I am a PMP certified engineer.
I sent an email to you. I would appreciate your response soon. Thanks.
Don't do it. If you get caught then you could be whisked away to a secret, govt run death camp way up in the frigid north.
Databases hold crucial corporate data, like recievables, payables, sales data, manufacturing data etc. This is especially true if you are working on production databases.
Of course companies will allow you to work on production databases only after they have thoroughly whetted your skills on other projects.
Development databases are a different ball game.
Going to India and getting the relevant experience for about an year may be a better option. But then again, there's a lot happening(for worse) in the Indian IT market.
