Hi ,

We are PRs and are expecting & wished to have the child delivered in the US on a visit visa . We are ready to bear all expenses and have found that this is legal and the INS permits this . Qs ~

Have some one known some body to have done this and were there any issues experienced ?

How much would be the delivery expenses ? We are thinking of USD 20K.Is there any way that we could take Insurance for this while we go on the visit ?

Would a visit visa / entry be refused on being pregnant ?

We intend to return after delivery . Could there be issues in later getting a TN visa ?

We believe that this is permissible and we do not breach any laws ....... has someone known otherwise ...Appreciate your comments .

20K to get US citizenship for your child?

Do you think that US will be as good as it is now after 20-25 years? How about saving that money in the bank for your kid?

I don't have any experience with this combination of insurance and pregnancy. I don't think it could be an issue if you don't go to purchase shortly before the delivery.
Now the big issue. I have no intention to discourage you. Technically, you can enter US on a "day-trip". But that's not what you want to do in your situation.
Keep in mind, INS don't like anybody who enter with an intention of not returning back to his/her home country. Even Canadian passport holder (desi origin) are denied entry in the US.
Usually the first question you are asked is regarding "Purpose of visit". Be prepared to answer that question. If you have any close relatives in the US then that might help.
Next, if you try for your TN, be prepared to convince that you will for sure return back to your home country. (TN is "temp" visa) And with your child born in US, you have a good challenge.

Keep life simple.
Good luck.

Yes, lots of women/families from Mexico, Cuba and other Latin American countries enter USA every day legally and illegally purely for this purpose.

Um....deportation :)

If everything is paid out-of-pocket, may not be enough.
Also, what if there are any unforseen complications, or C-Section delivery, extended labour or having to stay longer than expected in the hospital?
The expenses could spiral out of control very easily.
Before you realize what's happening, you could end up owing hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Is it really worth it for you, just to have your baby as US citizen?
What benefit do you expect that he/she cannot get as a Canadian citizen?

No traveler's insurance covers pre-existing conditions like pregnancy.

Not for being pregnant, but to deliver baby in US yes, most likely refused.

No, TN later will not be affected unless you overstayed your visit or violated laws in any way.

I know of 2 calculative brothers in New Jersy. The eldest came to US as a software engr. and became a citizen. He then made his younger brother ( a M. Com) study software and got him a H1 B visa through a desi body shop and brought him to US without any software job. The brother's wife also came along with him (she was 7 month pregnant that time). They delivered the baby in the US with the sole intention of the baby to be a US citizen and so that the citizenship would help them later for being sponsered to the USA.
The eldest brother told me that it took around $14,000 for the delivery in Edison, New Jersy. May be to reduce costs you can seek a desolate corner of USA so that your hospital bills will be even less.
All the best.

Peace by TK

Like....18 years later.
I've heard of the 5-year plan, but never heard of the 18 year plan :)
This has seriously got to be nuts...not that I disbelieve the story - I'm sure it's true and sadly not all that surprising.

I wouldn't be surprised if the expenses go well beyond $20K..
