how should one go about obtaining a loan!

I have a job and I have been in Canada for a year. I need to take loan for personal reason. Are there any private or govt. agencies where one could apply for a loan. What is the criterion to get a loan? How much (an approximate $ number) loan one can get(I am looking for 15K).

I guess Banks is place where one could apply, not sure what is their criteria to get personal loan. Any insight on this would be helpful too.Thanks in advance

The amount and ease of getting loan will depend on your credit history and your present salary mainly. There would be other criteria but these two would be main.

An easier way to think about it is to just assume that you have money which you are willing to loan, and someone comes to you for a loan. What would be the things that you would consider before giving a loan to an individual?

Basically you would look at the chances of recovery of that loan based on past history, guarantor, present status and things like it (including if you have a millionair father with whom you are living!)
