You donot have to wait for 2-3 months before asking for a training but the process can easily exceed 3 months. You can ask about the training in one month after you get laid off (when you meet the case worker for the first time) and it takes in excess of 2-3 months for the processing. So it is a very good idea to go to the training centres and decide the course that you want to do. Once you decide the course to take, they will deconstruct your resume and do all the nescessary paper work for your training to be approved by the case worker at the first or second meeting.
When you are on EI, it is always best to schedule your vacation in the first 3 months of being on EI (assuming that you will do a course).
Now with the massive layoffs and the same staff at the EI office, the process gets more and more delayed.

Hi TK,
My wifes ei got approved today for max 40 weeks in ontario.. It took them 4.5 weeks..
I think the delay in ur case is due to the extenuating circumstances.

No response from them yet.
With the massive layoff's, it may take them another 4-6 weeks before they give a result for my claim.
Peace by TK
