I don't live in Toronto so don't know the market very well....

But i just see that ATI-AMD is hiring right now at Markham :
https://www.amd.apply2jobs.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=mExternal.showJob&RID=6658&CurrentPage=8

Which is what i m doing currently at my place....

Inside reference is the best way but i m not lucky yet, i have applied on-line ...

we'll wait for 2-3 weeks then call them...

ATI is big and there must be some Desi's too, i would appreciate if someone can put some input regarding hiring process... as other CD's mentioned that it may be difficult to give reference for unknown desi like me but doesn't harm by guiding right directions

Hiring freeze can only be applied if the position is not critical.. There are exceptions to everything. If a Ceo of the company quits do u think a hiring freeze will prevent the company from hiring a new CEO...

Lot of companies are currently hiring in spite of hiring freezes..

My own company has a hiring freeze in effect for past 1 year and we are still hiring..

You missed something in my post. I am talking about the GENERAL (i.e. common) things. Not about the exceptions and the CEOs.

The company i work for hired 400 ppl on a work force of 25,000 last year inspite of hiring freeze.. Since the beginning of the year we are converting contractors to full time.. which is basically creating new position, despite the hiring freezing being strongly imposed this year..

So much for the exceptions.. Hiring freeze is a misnomer and cannot be generalized, it is a marketing gimic for the share holders to be mislead...

In reality it is all about budgets and open positions..

-- That's an exception to the term "hiring freeze" - at least in your company!

-- Correct, I said the similar thing earlier about the budget and you seem to have missed that too!
