Dear all,
I am very much impressed by this website ,particularly this forum wherein everybody is so eager to help others selflessly.Hats off to all of you.You are really doing a gr8 job.
As for me,I am a civil planning engineer, working in a US company in Middle East(Abu dhabi,UAE).I have applied for PR and most probably will be getting my visa by next year Feb.But I wud like to prepare myself well in advance for the job scenario and the struggle related to it.I have abt 10 years of experiance in planning/project management in major civil infrastructure projects. What I wud like to know is,how is the scope of planners/scedulers for civil infrastructure jobs in canada. One more important thing i.e. how long does it takes to get the P.E. license once you land in canada (considering the amount of time you need to spend for getting canadian experiance) and if anybody has experiance of the same.
Again, thanking you all for your valueble informations...

thanx jagmag...do u have any idea or experiance about PE license...if anybody can add something...it will be appreciated..
Yes I have.
In my case it took me good 5 years to finish the complete process. Although I must confess that I was kind of going wayward at some point not sure which direction I wanted to pursue.
But in general it all boils down to the quality of experience coupled with education you have. What I mean by experience is you should have a through knowledge of the kind of stuff you are doing Project Management/ Scheduling is really a broad term. You will have prepare your experience summary where by it shows how do you apply your knowledge of education gained in Civil Engineering i.e. different courses you studied to your work experience in Civil Engineering. I have seen for people who have design experience i.e. mean who have worked for Consultants have an advantage to get through the PEO process otherwise you may have to go through additional courses or go for higher studies like Masters. Certain about of language skills speaking/writing are also mandatory. Knowledge of computers is also required as most of the work is done with using computer software’s.
It is my personal opinion if you are young in the range of 25/28 there is no harm in pursuing higher studies like doing Masters unless you have other family priorities.
thanx jagmag, for ur valuable insight.Well,as for me,I am 32 yrs old and married...working in an american consulting firm...but the problem is that,I dont have any experiance in design..i work for project control team and I have good experiance in planning and scheduling, using Primavera and MSP.I have dne software management also,so I am well familiar with computers. But the help I am looking for is,how to go about the P.E. licensing..are there any institute for training or something...as it has been a long time since I have passed engineering. Also,it help be very helpful if u can throw some light on establishing the relationship of subjects studied in engg and jobs handled...as the things we study in engg are seldom used in job site.Job site uses much more advanced and upto date technology than the things we study in engg.I would really appreciate if u can help me in this regard...thnx again.
