My company laid off 8600 people worldwide, all locations, all functions - on tuesday (yes, in one day). The campus where I work with about 400 or so people, we lost close to 100

And today, Microsoft announced plans to lay off 5000 professionals. It's a real bad scene out here as regards some professions.
I agree with many CD's that it is better to at least wait this year out and hope mighty Obama will succeed in pulling his country out of it's mess and therefore a cascading reaction (for the better) will follow in Canada.
I reiterate that this is all very optimistic and depends on a lot of factors.

When the going gets tough, the tough gets going!!!
hi all
till now i haven't got reply of my previous mail.
i.e.
till now we have not the pr card in our hand .there was some problem with our photo to pr card so the cic people asked us to come personally. that why now we had applied for travel document.
we have got the travel visa till 2 nd june 2009.
1. should we do let the travel visa expired and apply for the same nearabt in nov or dec ?
2. will our pr card applying limit will expire ? what will be the expected response from cic office i mean what if they ask for delaying so long?
3. will embassy issue a travel visa again if we apply for it in nov or dec.?
as because of tough financial position we cann't go only for pr card.
i request the experts please advice.
thanks & regards
You have time till 2nd June 2009 to enter and collect the PR Cards and return and stay out of Canada for another two years. It takes a little over 60 days currently.
It is my humble opinion, that we are going to have this recession hanging over our heads for a few more years. You still have to make the trip to get the PR cards. So, why not do it now, because you have your entry visa to get in and complete the same. You don't have to worry about this one important item, and it will be out of the way.
You will have established your PR in this year. While you are here look out for suitable openings in your field and also find out who the others are that can employ you here in your chosen professions. What the alternate jobs are. Find them and work at it. See if you can hack it. Then go back if you find it not suitable. You never know ! You might get lucky ! At least it will pay for your stay here and might also pay for your trip too. Who knows?
Good luck and welcome back to Canada. (Only if you want to).
Freddie.
Hi,
To answer your original questions please go thru the link. It says the TD is issued only once.
"A Travel Document is a visa that allows you to seek re-admission to Canada as a permanent resident once.”
http://www.settlement.org/sys/faqs_detail.asp?faq_id=4000504
I'll suggest calling Embassy and clarifying with them.
Hope it helps.

This is bit confusing, the travel document guideline PDF book says this (last page 10)
"Once in Canada you should apply for a permanent resident card. Unlike the travel document, the Permanent resident card allows you to enter Canada multiple times without having to apply for a travel document each time"
We have applied TD once for our kids and visited Canada to apply for the card, the cards are ready and we need to pick them up (since we are again out of Canada) I need to apply for TD again for my kids, after reading your question I became doubtful if they'll issue TD again to us or not. I was also looking for information here and there. I'll check with the Embassy and let you know too.

you should also work on your communication skills while your are still in India - and if possible get your resume professionally done.
Also see if you can do some dot net certifications and participate in some open source projects on sourceforge.
