If you dont like North America go back to India.
Neither India nor Canada will force you to leave/come back. You do whats good for you.
There are 1Billion people living in India who probably like to live there
There are 300+ million people living in NA who probably like to live there too

Its better to live in a country where you will not be frustrated and depressed all the time and also not pass your negativity onto others.
You decide whats best for you..

Nothing seems to please this faction of people. No matter what India does, they always seem to look India through a microscope.

So tell me something, what the bloody hell is so great about North America? Wide roads that get congested when it drizzles? What is it? Why are you all so enamored by this bloody fake part of the world that is lacking in fundamental societal values so much? How many here call North America "home sweet home"? How many here call India "home sweet home"?

Hi Blorean!

"Why did you guys come here in the first place?" is my #1 question to them and I often times don't get an answer."

You have posted the above message on 04-06-08 here> http://www.canadiandesi.com/read.php?TID=20972&page=1#121367.
May we know why you came to North America if there is no attraction?

To OP ... You want to know what the hell is good about NA?

Answer this first ... to yourself and to board ... Why the hell are you in NA?
You have an answer to that? If yes then you got an answer to your original post. If no then either pack your bags or live miserable life here.

Its alright if you don't call NA "home sweet home" ... If your kids are born here - have you to asked them?

How about we other CDs 'Remove' some/most of Items from your list? I Thank God, as you could not think more ...

* I forgot to paint myself white after citizenship.
* I definitely didn't come here to have a mortgage. I'll be more than happy without it.
* Healthcare is NOT FREE
* EI - again is your own contribution.

PS: I hate to quote TK's one liners - can't beat that (have been successfully avoiding for some time), but could not stop this time ...

Came to the US as a student to study for my Masters years ago, but never had the intention to live outside India for the rest of my life.

Graduated and moved to Canada under family pressure, regretted it big time. Thought of moving back to the US soon after, but waited for my citizenship to facilitate travel to the US and the rest of the world, and moved back to the US.

Was doing what I wanted to do in Canada as well and was making 'good money' as per the 'Canadian standards', but Canada was just not for me. Didn't like the attitude of people and lot of other things, don't want to get into that rhetoric again.

Am contemplating if I am at a stage in my career where I can go back to India. Want to do it soon though. Marriage is on the cards and once am done with that, will come up with a concrete plan to go back.

And yes, India is home....sweet home.

TK,
I mean really dude..... what era are you talking of when you talk about some of the things in india? And mind you, your list should be titled: Why TK likes North America....

You mean to tell me that there's no pollution in NA? Of course there is...

There's no Caste system but there's RACISM; I don't see much difference as we brown skin people are treated like second class people here....

I don't know how you used to dress up in India but my family and many millions of others in india are well dressed, speak very good and CORRECT English, are fragrant, act very decently; May be you didn't do all this?

You talk about CULTURE, there's no culture in NA which is why all the North Americans are always looking to Indians and other asians for meaning of life.

Free English schools is such a great charm to you, I'm sure there are free school in India but not English coz our national language is HINDI not ENGLISH! What is so wrong about being fluent in HINDI?

Like Maharaj pointed out, FREE is NOT FREE... WE ARE ALL PAYING for it!

How the heck does conversion rate come into play.. you live in CANADA, you earn CANADIAN Dollars, you spend CANADIAN Dollars in CANADA... what conversion rate?

You talk so much about FREE FREE FREE... you don't realize that we pay so much tax and that's why this is all FREE...

India has good roads and good vehicles, highways are being built left and right and there's actually the concept of people just going for DRIVES...

People in India are coming up much higher and at a faster rate than Indians here; all of them own homes, have cars, maids, eat and live well, what more is needed? What of this do you have here?

Intelligent work space? Ok dude, what do u think is happening in the Microsoft campus and other big companies in India; all call center calls we get are from India, everthing is going to INDIA.. so what intelligence are you referring to?

The stigmas you discuss exist here as well, you probably don't see them.. turn on the news and u'll see....

again you talk of FREE and hand outs; these are not good enough to live on my friend.. and again like Maharaj pointed out, we are paying for all this through the nose.. I don't know about you but i don't like to see my hard earned money taken away in such high taxes so that lazy folks can get FREE stuff... besides, I don't think that handouts and free stuff are the way to live!

I don't know why you say there's no need to worry about your children after age 16.. it's' ur child and hence your constant worry! I feel bad for your child and what will happen once it turns 16!

DOWRY.. what the F#%$@ Will you ever get off the dowry band wagon?...

STATUS SYMBOL? what status symbol do we have here? we are all second class citizens!

I guess finally in india you used to eat crap and not nice food?

TK, no offense but your posts make it seem like all you think and know of India is that it's some crappy village.. you complain that India is not represented in a good light and yet look at what you think of India? How can you even think along such lines? Yes, Indian villages are not in good shape but neither are small towns in NA... GOD, you really need to go see some real Indian cities...and your facts are a few decades behind where INDIA is today!

To the original poster: I agree that India is always looked at under the microscope but you shouldn't care... some people will never be satisfied and if you think highly of India then start a thread to state that and don't worry about NA.... people leave India and come here for many reasons and what's more upsetting is those who live here and constantly bash up NA...and like others i always ask as well.. if you hate is so f^^%%G much, why are you here? BOTTOM LINE, some people just love to complain and will find anything under the sun to complain about and if nothing will complain about the fact that why is everything good and there's nothing to complain about ! ! !

You canot generalise NA to be the same. For eg. an Individual will have diff. experience in USA and in Canada and you canot tie both of them together.
While I am not a fan of neither India or Canada, from my experience, I can tell you why people like to come to North america (Note that some points may be relavant only to USA or only to Canada).

Why Desi's like North America
1. Pollutionless , clean environment
2. Casteless system
3. All people are white, well dressed, speak English, are fragrant, act decently, well cultured etc...
4. Free english schools
5. to somewhat degree the conversion rate
6. CPP/ Social security/ Social welfare/ free handouts etc...
7. Good Transport system, Good roads,
8. Ability to come up in life though a peon in India / BA In India etc... and can buy car, have a mortgage etc..
9. Intelligent work space. People use the latest technology/ Business practice to work.
10. People oppressed in India (like failure to bear a child, Drug habits etc..) can have a free life in NA without social stigma
11. Free healthcare
12. Employment Insurance
13. Passport and its benefits.
14. Once you have children, handouts from the govt.
15. No need to worry about your children as long you can feed them until age 16. After that, they study with OSAP. Do part time jobs. No dowry. Children will themselves seek a partner
16. Status symbol
17. Ability to eat very nice food which is luxury in India for most people.

That is all I can think about now. Hope other CD's will add to it.

Peace by TK
