Yeah Saptahiki and Chitrahar and Sunday movie used 2 b the only entertaining programs on TV b4 the advent of 'Hum Log' ......... Guess Hum Log & Khandaan were the pioneers of Indian Soap scene .

Newsreader / anchors .Names that spring 2 mind --- definitely Salma Sultan and Shammi Narang 4 Hindi and Rini Simon 4 her constantly changing hair do . Yeah even I used 2 get 'swept off my feet' by her.

Ha ha those were the days when TV watching used 2 b delectable and a thing worth savouring .These days -- I have stopped watching --- u can watch the next serial the same day 2 pick up where u left the previous serial :d

There also used 2 b this lesser known 'kaala pani' or 'ruka pani' or something in 87 with Sallo Aapa .....hope sm1 rememebrs .

Further back in time any1 recalls 'Aapke Liye ' on Sunday mornings anchored by Vinod Dua ........... 4 the past 4 years in the Mid East I havent watched TV ..........Guess I have had my fill earlier in life !!!!

It is amazing to know that many of the Canadian Desies still remember so many old serials which also surprised and reveived my memory. Just for your information, perhaps most Indians do not remember many of these serials due to heavy bombardment of the soaps on different channels at present.

You guys must be having a larger memory of these serials than any average Indian here in India.

(and its spoof by Satish Shah.... Bata Chakram varna main tere sar ke tukde tukde kar doonga....usne Kachua chaap macchar agarbatti jalaya... sahi jawab diya magar tu bola aur main gaya...hehehehahahaha )

It is indeed very interesting to share with u all the situation here in India about the Indian TV. We are proud to note that we have reached a stage that the Indian TV entertainment is perhaps among the best in the world (I guess so). Earlier it was about “Cars” and now it is the same story about the “Indian TV”. One interesting thing about it is that this quality entertainment is perhaps available to all sections of the society and is so far quite affordable (around INR 200-300/- per month for all channels).

There are a number of private channels available round the clock including some channels exclusively devoted to religious channels like “Astha”. Some channels show mostly comedy serials only like SAB TV. Some are exclusively news channels like Zee news, DD News, NDTV News, Aaj Tak (India today’s channel, most popular and the first one to start the news channel trend) and many others. Then there are many regional channels focusing on entertainment and other issues. Only there is no Indian channel like “Discovery” or “Nat. Geo”. Soaps serials are among the most popular like Star News (most popular), SONY, ZEE TV, Sahara Manoranjan, and many others incl. regional language channels.

On the entertainment front, there are a number of serials, which are popular, but the most popular soaps among them are those produced and directed by Miss Ekta Kapoor the daughter of erstwhile mega star “Mr. Jitender”. All her serial names starts with a “K” and are grossly misspell (her trade mark perhaps). However the most popular serial as I guess is, as all of u know is JJKN. Among the other notable popular serials are – CID (Sony), Office- Office (Comedy/Satire- SAB TV), Dhaba Junction (Jaspal Bhatti Comedy- SAB TV), Sab kucch ho sakta hai (Comedy- SAB TV), Kkusum (Romance/tragedy- SONY),

Then there are a lot many serials and Hindi dubbed cartoons for kids but many of these serials are on Harry Potter pattern.
TV is the most common pass time for kids and housewives to the extent I had to limit the time for my kids to see the TV per day.

Bollywood film festival awards and TV serial award functions by all the main channels and corporate are the latest craze and keeps the entire artist busy attending these. Many of the mega movie stars are appearing in the small screen.

I was told Australian Desies are able to see some of these channels through DTH. I believe it may be the same in Canada. However if the bandwidth supports Internet can be another option to get the serial downloads. However I am not sure if these are available on the net. May be someone can post the information on this.

Hope above accounts give a small picture of our small screen these days.
