I heard on the news (Radio) yesterday about how Canada was faring very badly in the Olympics. Yesterday the Radio host was commenting that in all the events that we had participated, Canada finished dead last or near dead last. He also commented that Canada was the only host nation in the history of the Olympics which failed to win even one medal when hosting the olympics on home soil (Montreal 1976).Yesterday (Aug. 11th 2008), the host also commented that nations that he had never heard of like Togo, Uzbekisthan, Khazakisthan etc.. even were on the medal tally.
What is wrong with Canada. We have the same facilities and govt. support to the USA. So we have to be atleast 1/10th of USA when it comes to medals but we are not near that mark even. We have good sporting facilities and people who are exposed to hard core sports from young age itself.
On a side note, the 20K promised by the govt. for a gold medal (Rs. 72 lakhs) dwarfs what a so called 3rd. world and poor country (India) gave its olympic gold medal winner (2 crores and counting)
As a consolation, the same host said today (Aug. 12/2008) that Canada finished 5 th in 2 swimming events).
Peace

Mumbai Maazi Ladki ...
Quote:I don't think that's accurate. A lot of the Canadian atheletes have to train abroad because of lack of high-end facilities here.
