Hi !!

I came to know about this site from afriend. I am a relatively new immigrant to Canada. Although I got to read alot of articles and views about jobs and careers, I hardly got to se anything on enhancing your education....

I wish to pursue a career in medicine and healthcare here, is anybody aware of how to approach this. I know that it means studying for a long time but can somebody guide me on any funding available to support my education...

Any kind of encouraging suggestions would help.
Thanks

Welcome to this forum. I suggest you post your question under the education section at http://www.canadiandesi.com/board.php?FID=33

Good luck in your new endeavour.

Hi natasha
welcome to canada. you have enquired about medical profession. its is the most sought after profession in canada as if u r doctor trained in canada u can make very good money and no problems for job etc so very secure career but that is also the reason its most difficult to enter. you have to take some undergarduate courses in biology and biochemistry and your %age must be close to 90 and the u have to write MCAT so its quite hard labor to enter mdeical school.
if u need any other information i need to know ur profile and status in this country.
regards
pankaj

Hi !!

Thanks a lot for responding to my query. I am glad I found some help finally.

I have a PR status in Canada. I came here in June 2003. From India, I did my graduation in Zoology Hons from Delhi University and also have a Masters in Computer Management from Pune University.
I have been reading the requirements for admission to Medical school. I think one needs 15 credits in any discipline with a good GPA and also a good score in MCAT for it. I have submitted all my degrees to WES for evaluation, so that I know how many credits I already have to give me a clearer picture of where i stand. There are 2 key issues that I face right now-
1. My GPA might not be good, can I take some ourses to improve it?
2. I have no finances....
I am still awaiting results from my WES evaluation.

Hope u can give me some more info on this.

Boy oh Boy... The medical profession is one of the most toughest courses here !.
Natasha, unfortunately if you dont have a good GPA then sorry you wont be able to make the cut. You have to really bosst youf GPA else you have to rely on a very very high percentile score in MCAT ( I dunno how that works..)
What courses do you wish to take ? Have you taken ur MCAT or abt to take it ?
As for finances... I dont think in Medical school on can get scholarships ( as in engineering ).. You may wish to try NSERC / govt funding. YOu can also take student loans ( and then get formally admitted to the great North american debt burden !)

Cheerz:D
