Hi CD's,
One of my friends had an interview with a IT company in GTA. The interview went very well. Then they asked for references and told him that after checking references they will get back to him regarding their decision. They checked references (he was given a good feedback by his past employers). Now its almost 2 weeks they have not given him any feedback. He followed up with them and they still said "we will let you know soon".
Is it a possibility that after a good interview and good reference check, the new empolyer might not consider for the position? (Though i have heard that employers check references only when they want to hire you)
Please Advice,
Thanks
I had this terrible experience just few days back and hope this won't be the case with your friend.
I got the interview thr' a recruiter in IT company. The written test and interviews went well..the recruiter gave me the feedback that the employer is quite impressed. The second interview was with CEO of the company and the recruiter said it is just formality. He just want to see who he is hiring.
That went fine..
The final stage was reference checking...that also went fine. It was done by the recruiter.
Suddenly two days later my great recruiter tells me I am not hired!!!
I was shocked and amazed..Can anybody tell me what possibly might have gone wrong..
I am still feeling very depressed about it..as it was very good opportunity for me..

To Chinubabu. Did you ask recruiter specifically what happened? Actually, they are the one know about the broader picture and were told about the reason why their candidate wasn't hired.
As for the reference checks. If you're going through a recruiter, then sometimes they themselves check the reference and not the company itself. They rely upon recruiters in this context. I am stating it because it happened to me as well. Recruiter met me in person, interviewed me, and explained about the position, salary, company etc. Then they asked me about two references, which I happily provided them with. The next day, recruiter contacted my references. This was followed with company interview. Unfortunately, I couldn't get hired. If I were, then the company wouldn't have followed the reference procedure as recruiter already did that. At least this was told to me.
Fortunately, upon inquired about why I couldn't get hired, the recruiter told me that they had a better candidate.
So, the gist of the story is following. Ask the recruiter why you were not hired.
Good luck for your subsequent and future interviews. It happens.
As far as I know, Usually, if company is checking the references then the candidate is almost hired. Though scenario would be different in case the recruiter has checked the references and not the company as the reference check may happen before the company interview itself, as febpreet has explained.
cooolll_guy, It may take 2-3 weeks after the reference check for an actual offer.
Actually the company interviewed me twice and then the references were checked by the recruiter...
