In a train accident the police first steal cash and jewelery from the dead bodies and then attend to the injured.

Man, this was impossibly difficult to read, especially with a little kid involved.

You are right BL, it is indeed very sad. My husband was 5 yrs old when his father (my FIL) passed away in similar circumstances. He was returning home from office and felt chest pain, he reached hospital and pleaded for help to the emergency doctors, they told him to sitdown on the waiting bench. He passed away within minutes before all those mighty doctors on bench, sitting (heart attack), he was only 32. The irony was even after his death, they didn't notice him on the bench. The taxi guy who brought him to the hospital was waiting for him and came in to check. He was the one who notified the family (by looking in his pockets for any clue).

After we both read this yesterday, the night was impossible to pass.

I'm praying to god for the strength the family needs.

Jona

My perception from one experience during one of my visit to India was, either people lack the common courtesy or the value of human life is non-existent.

Me and my parents were walking along a busy street when a cyclist knocked the backpack off an young school girl (about 8 to 11 yrs old) spilling her books and notes all over the road. Not a single person, including my parents, flinched. They all went about their business while I was helping pick the books off the street for that child.

This is the contrast we notice when we visit India and all my life i was insensitive like others, but now after having lived in North America when i watch my Bai slog at my parents home in India for 30 $ a month i wonder.

Wow! So many 'India Haters'. I feel bad about their pea brains. Very unfortunate this happened, but this could have happened anywhere in the world..and yes...in North America as well.

Twice I've been in the situation.....once when I was in grade 12...back home...I was riding my bike and saw a crowd...wondering what was going on...saw an auto rickshaw smashed into a car...and the driver of the rickshaw was bleeding...major head injury. Being a kid....was just watching when a gentleman in his thirties came forward and said I need a helping hand so that I can take this person to a hospital.....I came forward....both of us hailed another rickshaw and planned to take the injured to the hospital....on our way we were told by our driver that 'it is a police case and we should go to the police station first'....we complied...was surprised to see the police action....they told us that no paper work is required and that we should take the injured to the hospital asap...and we did. No need to tell that a life was saved by a very prompt action of a police inspector.

It also reminds me of another incident when a sikh gentleman off loaded his whole family on a highway..so that we (involved in a car crash..lost my roommate at that time) can be taken to the hospital....

The moral of the rant is....it's people who differ in attitude...not the fault of a whole nation...

If you think you can thank your stars that you live in Canada now and escape such happenings....you are mistaken my friend....unfortunately...accidents can happen anywhere...and you will find good and bad people everywhere...some would stop by to help you...some would just look at their watch and continue to drive.

I don't think you get the point - hats off for chosing the right handle/id for yourself. You at least got that right.

So, just as you mention that there are good and bad people, there are some good and bad points about any country - thanks for making me voice a rather dull and obvious point but I had to get it thru to your rather misplaced, non-existent "brain".

So the post mulled over policing and law etc which the vast majority would agree is not India's greatest pride. The article from the original post brings to fore a very disturbing attitude the police have in the situation that makes one squirm and narrate various other such situations they themselves have been in and/or witnessed.

Are you with me? Or do you need some more explanation? Maybe we can meet face to face at some huge boardroom where I can draw pictures etc...

The discussion's core premise centers around an incident in India that reflects the callous attitude of the majority of law enforcement. This is not an India vs. anything else discussion.

This is exactly the kind of people the country needs.

I am thanking a lot more than my stars for what I have in Canada and what I am being able to provide my family. I do agree anything can happen anywhere. But in Canada, a majority of the law enforcement officials would show a much better attitude/approach/professionalism/sense of urgency at the scene of an accident.

To your point of anything can go bad anywhere, there was an accident on the streets of Detroit involving a woman. She was unconscious in the car. Some great resident of Detroit took advantage, raped her and left by the time emergency services arrived. I can only wonder!
