Hi,

tax season is almost over ...

just trying to compare taxes in usa, uk, canada and australia.

Where would someone earning C$50K pay the least in taxes?

Cheers.

What do you mean by Tax season is over - don't we pay taxes the whole year round??

I am sure, he must've meant 'Tax Return' filing season. He really wasn't SPECIFIC.

Have fun!

From Wikepdia, I found that Florida also does not have state income tax.
In Pratick's post, I forgot to read STATE personal income tax. We still have to pay the federal income tax for these province. As per my tax return my Onatrio personal tax was 50% of what I paid for the federal govt. So it is a significant amount.
In my opinion, Texas, Neveda and Floridia seems to be the best states in terms of employment in the Architectural field. Unfortunately all these states are practically too far away from the cdn border (to use Canada's free health benefits). That apart, I shall concentrate on these states when I apply for employment.

Peace out

Hi TK. Even Washington doesn't have a State Income Tax. If you're looking for something near the Cdn. border then that's the state to look for. It's in a close proximity to British Columbia. I am not sure of Architectural field though.

This post is quite valuable. At least I know I am close to Washington and Seattle is having a good Software companies. Something to look for in future.

Thanks all!!!

Before you get too excited, please consider the following -

- There are reasons why these places do not have state income taxes.
Most of these places do not have sound and diversified local economies like other states do.
Consider states like Wyoming, South Dakota, Nevada, Alaska, etc.
If you can find a well paying job in your field then great, however, the number of opportunities and options are very limited.
Even if you were to find your first job, what about options when you want to change?
Even Florida may sound very exciting because of weather and scenery, etc. but there isn't a diversified economy in Florida beyond tourism and senior resident support.
Texas is probably the only exception.

- At the end of the day, the state income tax is not a huge deal - it cannot form the basis of your decision where to settle.
Most state income taxes are 6% or less.
That is applied after all your deductions, etc.
Would you consider the significantly higher salaries and benefits of states like California, New York, etc. or the 6% less tax rate in Wyoming?

- Over a period of time, you will not be able to maintain your Canadian residency for taking advantage of "free" health care.
Driving back every evening or every weekend is not a sustainable long term strategy.

Anyhow, it is your choice where you want to seek work and live - just don't keep your options restricted to those places that don't have state taxes.
In the end, it never pays off to chase after these kinds of facts and ignore other things.
