3.6 billion tickets sold and revenue of 1.3 billion. Take out DVD, television etc and ticket revenue is 1 billion, which means that on an average tickets sold for less than 30 cents which is 12 rupees........where in INdia can you get tickets for 12 rupees???
total cost of films = 1.5 billion, Revenue = 1.3 billion Profit = 260 million (assume 20% return). which means bollywood is losing huge amounts of money....why then are so many corporates rushing in to make movies???
Compare the population. That itself will give the answer. As m_r pointed out, its only hindi movies. What abt Tamil and Telugu movies?? People are crazy there abt movies.
I wont buy the numbers for bollywood as there is no proper system to count everything. If there is a huge rush for hindi movies in, say, Jhansi or Sahranpur, are they counted? Who reports them to whom?

bollywood is now!
great market to capitalize on!
