Hello,

My son (aged 17 yrs) received a measles shot when 10 months old and an MMR when 18 months old, as per Indian medical practice.

Now, the Canadian health system wants him to get another shot because "we give the first needle after 12 months of age and your son got his needle before 12 months of age".

My question is -

is there likely to be any medical problems if the boy were to get an MMR at this age? If so, I'll just file a religious waiver affidavit.

Please advise.

Thank you for your post. I fully agree with your view that the best possible medical care should be provided to our children.

My question arises from my concern that -
1. the child is already protected as per Indian medical practices - which are designed to take care of our children in conditions that are a lot less hygenic than those in Canada.
2. the child is therefore adequately protected.
3. does the Canadian insistence on an MMR shot provide additional protection to the child? or can the shot harm the child who is now a young adult?
