Aamir Khan has created a bit of a silent havoc among some parents in India. TZP is a movie, in the opinion of some sane parents and teachers, is tailor made parents. Some senior teachers are of the opinion that instead pushing kids to watch the movie (some schools in India are doing that), parents need to see the movie and understand. Some working parents who had hardly time for their kids, now suddenly are feeling guilty and paranoid and are running to the professionals. They want to know if their kids have that problem as shown in TZP or any other mental issues. Psychologists and psychiatrists are having a field day because of the paranoia created by TZP.

Hats off to Khan for having sheer guts to make a movie like this. Looks like he never cared abt the box office success when he started the movie.

More than the kids, this is a must one for Parents and those stupid teachers back home who show a strong bias towards average students and never pay attention how to bridge the Gap.. So do the parents. I am hopeful such thing is quite less intense here.. How idiotic to think all kids will score 98+, not even in Harvard I suppose..

Before this movie, many of us were not at all aware of this disability. And now, he has made it clear that such disability is widely prevalent (10%) among kids universally.

This will certainly bail out many kids from the adversity they go through and also gives an opportunity for parents to understand that such thing exist and such thing has its own impact on the performance of the kid.... I am positive this will evoke a positive approach to their kids understanding what they are going through.

Hats off to you Aamir. This is a must one for all the parents irrespective of the background.

Ok guys,
Does any one knows who is Amol Gupte? Let's move the spotlight on other side of the stage to appreciate his work. He is the story writer of TZP and won Nokia Star Screen Awards for best story for the film. It was really a touchy moment when he said (while receiving the awards) this award belongs to his art teacher 'Ram Shankar Nikumbh' (sounds familiar?).

I always like Aamir's work. But TZP fans should read this artical:
http://www.mumbaimirror.com/net/mmpaper.aspx?page=article§id=30&contentid=2007121420071214032915812f397a0b3

Taare Zameen Par has been in the news, a little for being a film on children, more for being Aamir Khan's debut venture. Along with this, there has been a sub-plot bubbling under.

Aamir Khan took over the film and Amol turned creative director overnight. What happened?

Now, Amol has decided to break his silence. As he puts it, "I have worked on Taare Zameen Par for eight years, I have encapsulated all my years of experience of working with differently-abled children in the film, that now I want people to know a little more about the film - other than the fact that it marks Aamir Khan's directorial debut. I am extremely happy that Aamir has put his signature on the film. But I want my film, which is like my child, to get a little bit of the sunshine too. Any parent will want that."

Let's take the story from the beginning. "Okay. I needed a commercial vehicle to get my message across, an intellectual documentary would have got me nowhere," says Amol. "That's why I went to Aamir. Aamir kept me waiting for two years to hear the script. Finally, in 2002, he heard the script. Even after that, it took four years to start shooting."

In these four years, Amol did everything that a director does. "I did all the pre-production, I held workshops and found Darsheel from among 6000 children, I planned the project right down to its last detail. My script is a director's script, more than a writer's script," he says.

Finally, in 2006, Amol began shooting his film. Six days later, there was a change. There was a discussion, Aamir wasn’t happy with the shots taken in those six days. Result: Aamir took on the project as director, and Amol was called 'creative director'.

So what work does a creative director do? "What work can a creative director do? I was on the sets, guarding my baby," he laughs. "The film has been produced and directed by Aamir Khan. Aamir has graciously said in his interviews that I've 'guided and corrected him'. He said that I've given him the 'sur' for each scene. You know what that means." We do.

After a pause, he adds, "Yes, I guess from a parent, I became a dai-ma, an ayah to my baby. I was playing A K Hangal's role. Bhai chai lao… Layenge bhai. Anything for my baby. I'm happy that the film has shaped up so well. Now I want people to give it its due, not just concentrate on Aamir Khan's directorial debut. I know that he's a big star, and that the lights go on wherever he goes. He has great star power, he a great actor. But I want my project, my baby to share some of this spotlight too."

Now Amol has another script ready, for another film on children. Will he approach any star for that too? "Yes, I will. I love to be bitten again and again!" he replies with a laugh.

"But seriously speaking," he continues. "I need those shoulders. I'm not making films for myself. For my kind of films, I need to reach out to parents and a star makes a difference." And suppose he runs into trouble again? "I'm optimistic," he replies. "This time I will produce and direct it. If necessary, I will change my name for luck!"

Now an average student has a ready excuse .... thanks to Amir. Suddenly this condition has become an in thing in India. Surprisingly we dont have "peanut allergy" in India, waiting for Amir to touch on this topic.
Anyway to get a different prespectice check http://www.channel4.com/news/microsites/D/dyslexia_myth/dyslexia.html

I saw this movie and I really liked it. Hats of to Aamir for taking an off-stream topic and making a commercially successful "non-art" movie.

However, if he is thinking of Oscars, he has to do some heavy trimming to this movie - especially the pre-interval portions. It is almost interval before we come to know that the kid has dyslexia. Also, there are couple of places where movie drags, and couple of places where melodrama has been added to appeal to Indian audience.

The music is excellent - except for that song with stupid unintelligible lyrics. Just because it is kid's song does not mean the lyrics have to be stupid.

On a side note, Gulzar mentions in the CD "Panchambeats" the kids songs usually are always about "hare hare patte" and "hare hare ped" - that his why he broke this rule and created "Masterji Ki Chitthi" (and later "Lakde Ki Kathi" & "Kayda Kayada";).
