thanks

Your question is very difficult to answer. It all depends on your aspirations, your expenses and the life style you want to live.
May be the following could help:
With 4 family members, probably you are looking at the monthly rent: apprx 750-850 (basement) or 900-1100 (apartment)
Initially, when you do not have any car, monthly transporation expenses (monthly pass / tickets): apprx 100-150 per person
Grocery(no un-necessary items): 200-300 a mnth for a family of four
Telphone: apprx 40-50 a month
If you take a cellular: apprx 35-50 a month depending upon your plan and usage
LONG DISTANCE CALLS TO BACKHOME: depends on your usage
Then you may consider some other misc. expenses in the tune of 250-300

As regards to salary, if you work 40 hours in a week at athe hourly rate of $12 per hour, you make $1920 gross and you are into 22% tax braket (if I am not wrong) meaning your take home will be apprx 1500. You will also have child tax benefit for both kids which could be apprx 100-200 per month per kid.

Hope it helps to get you an idea!

Thx and Rgds,

Montreal is less expensive comparing GTA
You can get 2 BR apartment within $450-500 ...transportation will be within $70-$80 per person if you don't have car
Car insurance is almost one third comparing Toronto(Considering your driving record is clean)
Only problem you need to know French to get a start up job here
But truly Montreal is a nice place to live in..different from other USA/Canadian cities more like any European place

I agree with ani70. But Toronto is like Bombay and Montreal is just like Madras. For bombay national language is O.K same for toronto English is just fine. But for Montreal and Madras youhave toknow french and tamil.

So if you want to swim in big ocean, toronto is good.

If you want lake, you may consider montreal.

Toronto is business total commercial city. Thorough commercial. Everyone is running after dollar although every difficult to catch it, if caught very difficult to hold it for long, unless forced under law to save tax and future
