I tried Armor when they were recruiting for Canadian Tire. For the question "How much weight you can lift?" I said 50 pounds and since it is less than 80 pounds, so did not give the job. Shipping/Recieving jobs are very labourious and tiring to do and you require a lot of physical strength!
In other provinces, I do not know anybody but I am trying to develop contacts and will move out GTA eventually.
Right now, I am not in a position to spend money on moving out, see the job market in other provinces and settle down somewhere else.
I personally feel that job market is very bad in Ontario even for labour jobs. Everyday thousands immigrate from all over the world but most of them try to settle down in Toronto and GTA.
Agency job, you are in job for one day and out of job the next day. Agencies and companies are playing games with new immigrants who unable to find suitable jobs, land up in labour jobs.
Agencies try to rotate people so that workers do not become permanent employees and lead to loss of their income. They try to rotate the same job with the workers who have registered with them. So everybody is working but not continuously. You work for one day and you are out of work the next day!
Sometimes the agencies and companies are giving out very hard physical jobs for just $7.50 or $8/hr like unloading of trucks of boxes weighing more than 50 kgs because they feel that they will find someone to do that job at that rate! They will send you saying that you have to put picture frames in boxes and it is very light work. You land up there and you have to unload a truck containing big boxes of picture frames in bulk! You can refuse and go away but you lose that day's income and also money spent on transit.
I interact with many people most of whom are doing labour jobs and with most of them, it is the same: in work one day, out of work the next!

Canada...another name for struggle in life!
I heard that in summer months, there are plenty of jobs. From November, I am still waiting for that "summer" which will have plenty of jobs!!!
Even in labour jobs, it is difficult to get something that lasts long!

They should stop immigration now. One day this will blow up in the face of Canadians. Unfortunately not many Canadians realize this...or maybe they do...
Mazdoor GTA,
Go for ARMOR/Canadian Tire. i work at Canadian tire...you will get used to it. You dont have much choice..........rarely you get 80 pound boxex. The max I have lifted (in bulk) is 27 KG. there could be more but then.....

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
The situation continues to be grim.
I am fed up of hearing "Sorry, we do not have anything available at the moment" from 9 agencies.
"Do you have a car or take the bus?"
"Bus"
"Sorry then we do not have anything for you"
At some factories, some shifts ends at 2 in the morning and some shifts start 5 in the morning when there is no transit available.
I am missing few oppurtunities because of lack of car. Even for jobs that pay only $8 or 9 per hour, car is needed because of timings and location. Out of $1000-$1100 per month income, $500 will be taken for car for insurance, gas and maintainance!
Strange, not even labour jobs here!
