Hello Everyone:
I have been working in Canada for last 6 years and have worked in quite a few places. Every company I work for, it seems like there are a few white managers and some white full time staff and rest mostly temp immigrant staff. In a typical company which has 85% immigrant employees, there are hardly 5% immigrant managers. Why are we not given a fair treatment. I think the reason is because we dont stand up for it. I have long been thinking of making an assosiation where problems like these can be discussed and highlighted one company at a time with volunteer help. If we gather enough support we can also pressurize local politics to change the scenario. All I am asking for is your support and one day in a month where we organize some demonstration regarding such problems. Give me your opinion. Number of replies would suggest how much support we can gather.
Thank You
Amit
Do you think it is because people are white/caucasian that they are made into managers? What type of business/industry do you work in?

How about industries / Businesses in India? more than 95% you will find are Indian manages.
So why you think here differently. It is their country, their businesses, they are the promoters in most cases, so they manage as well.
On the other hand - take all big consulting firms here in Americas, I have many freinds ( all Indians ) who are working as Program Managers / Proejct Managers - managing huge proejcts with at least 25 - 100 members teams
So I do not really think that all is dominated by whites. It could well depend on Business/industry types etc.
Any other thoughts ?
Thanks for your replies. But I think you guys totally missed my point. I am more interested in fair representation. In spite of being equally and sometimes more qualified, we are not fairly represented in the hierarchy of the organisation. Take for example a company like Celestica, Leave aside the real Top People. Even in mid management, if you count the number of white employees its like 10% of the workforce. And they are all in the top of the management team. Most times the excuse it, o we are not hiring for those positions, but whenever it happens, we just dont get promoted. I hardly see any white Guy on the work Floor.
USA is slightly different though. Being in Ohio, I dont think you have any idea about Canada. I have worked both in US and Canada and this problem mainly persists in Canada. US is doing far better to narrow this bridge.
Please post more opinions....Thank You
It is surprising to see this question has come into discussion. Europeans established in Canada more than couple of centuries back and others have just been stepping up gradually. In next couple of centuries, it will be in balance and could even get the other way. I'm noticing the difference already. More over I never consider superior in any way, he has just been assigned a different role. If there is conflict, it could always be escalated as appropriate. I do understand it doesn't work that well in floor.
In a business driven economy, the race / background doesn't really but the result. No body would be willing to compromise their millions / zillions for their race / clan. $$ matters.

What you have said is insightful. Its true that equality will take time. Women - though now appearing in management and upper level positions as a whole are still facing the glass ceiling, inequalities in pay etc.
I am against Oppression against any group - women, races, homosexuals, etc. However as the op had mentioned the race issue..I want to mention that I dont think its a conscious exclusion of indo canadians from climbing the corporate ladder.
