I am not surprised - he must have looked at it as additional pressure or politics. He would have taken it if he had ODI Captaincy. If Indian Cricket is at his Heart then I hope it is informed decision and discussed with Selectors. He should be knowing who the Captain will be at this time.

I dont know Dhoni. He will take it as another challenge. But Kumble should be the Man. He definitely will be around for at least a Year or Two. I would have gone for Laxman ... Laxman, like Shastri, is natural Leader but his place in the team is not as secured as Kumble's.

He wasn't going to take it ....... he knows he hasn't performed well as a captain ..... would love to see "Dada"back in the drivers seat.
Laxman too would be a good choice

Kumble it is ... at least against Pakistan to begin with.

He is going to run Last Few Yards as a Captain ... Good for him. After Pakistan he has Australia & South Africa to deal with.

Funny as it may seem, but if the team think tank were to decide on playing just 1 spinner for any of the match, it will be Bhajji who will have to sacrifice..even if (only if) he is doing good...unless they invent the theory of non-playing captain...

IMO, it is not a great decision, but hope it turns out to be a blessing in disguise..some more time for Dhoni to prepare before taking over the test captaincy.

Players at the top no more seem to enjoy their game because of the greed for money and power with which the game is being run these days.
Rahul Dravid could celebrate his return to his home state by making a double ton. May be he did not make a lot of money but he made of lot of living. He must consider himself lucky that unlike S. Venkatraghavan, after captaining one test match he did not become 12th man in the next. Badrinath also made a captain's knock and an innings of his life time (72 retd. hurt) in the Ranji trophy match against Maharashtra. Like Vishy’s 97 not out against Windies, this must be one of the best innings that Chepauk has ever seen.

On Indian Pitches they both will play - no doubt over that. Bhajji has been Off-Color lately in Test Matches. He is no more a Wicket Taking Bowler as before. After getting a Kick, he went to play County & that must have helped him ... We will know about all that in next Three Tests against Pak.

Last Tour to Aus was a success for Kumble, he definitely has more variety now.

So let's see ... If he succeeds then at least some one will have a good Send Off on happy & winning Node.
