If any one in this forum has been preparing for the six sigma (GB or BB) exam? And the already certified ones, could you please share your experience and tips for the exam?
Thanks.
1. Don't carry suitcase loads of books to the exam as I have seen few do. The Primer available from the Indiana Council for about $70 USD is more than sufficient. Besides, you won't have time to use all the books in the exam.
2. Take the exam after you have done a project and more importantly, understand the concepts of 6-sigma through your project. Otherwise, the primer becomes a boring reading material and you may tend to memorize which will not help.
3. Definitely, do not memorize anything. If you have worked in a related industry and have done projects that apply six sigma concepts, it becomes easier. Also, in the exam, use the glossary to quickly track the answers.
4. As is the case for most exams, do not study for a long time. You'll get bored and lose interest. A month of prep is good.
5. During the exam, although, the questions in the exam are laid out randomly, it helps to break the monotony by completing the first two pages of questions, then jump to last two, then back to 3 and 4, etc. Be careful, though, not to miss out any questions.
6. If a question is difficult, move on to the next. Also, there is no penalty for wrong answers. Make sure you answer all if you are running out of time and you will at least get 25% right (statistically speaking, that is.).
7. Drive over to the exam center a day or two before to check it out if you are unaware of seating, driving distance, location, etc. And, be there at the center well ahead of start time. Helps to settle and cool your nerves.

Thanks a lot Dimple.
Has anyone recently completed or preparing for six sigma? Where to start? What study material is helpful?
I did PMP and knew that PMBOK and Rita Mulchay's material would do the trick. Looking for similar inputs.
Any insights appreciated.
