My wife wanted to open an account in a nearby ICICI branch (abt 200 mts). So we went there much to our annoyance where no one gives a damn to anything. It’s like a market. People running around, both staff and customers. Finally the guy whose card read “Business Development Executive” was willing to talk to us. The guy barely spoke English, also reluctant to speak in Kannada. Had a very low attention span to what we were saying. Also he mumbled a lot, we could not hear all of what he was saying. We just wanted a savings/checking account. He would not tell us what are the benefits, such as ATM card, cheque book, etc. Even if he had mumbled, we could not have heard him, despite 2-3 feet away. He wanted passport copies, etc which we were ready with. Then he asked for Rs.15,000 to open an account and Rs. 5,000 minimum to be maintained. Other banks as I know need Rs. 500 to open an account. This guy would not budge. At the same time other customers would come and talk to him despite we sitting right across to him. That’s the desi mentality I guess. This guy, instead of telling them to wait for a few minutes, started answering them. Anyway, we sat there wondering what we need to do. Finally he collected his stuff on the desk and told us to bring a Rs. 15,000 cheque and walked off. We got up and walked off. Well, he (and the branch) lost a good FD account. Finally we went to a nationalized bank and opened an account without any hassles.
Where was this ? In Ottawa ?
I also had a similar experience in Toronto....that time they had a system glitch...and so cld not do a simple thing ...I dont remember now but sthg like telling acct bal or if a cheque has been deposited etc.
Whenever I see advtmt of ICICI...hum hai na and shahrukh....I like him so watch it everytime as if watching for the first time and they have made a good advtmt....hum hai na concept...is good if it really is true but it is not....and then I think alas shahrukh knew the reality ) . People may rely on shahrukh (he says take my word for it) and then we get disappointed
Assuming it happened in Bangalore.
ICICI bank charges, fees, and requirements for minimum balance, etc., are higher than nationalized banks in India.

Few year back (7 years) when I open ICICI bank it was great. Last month I went to India ICICI bank is filled will people waiting for a service. It was like a fish market.
I had lot of problems this time with ICICI bank with is bad service. I had to visit 5 times to fix some ATM card issues which still not done.
I went to the other bank ( Canara and BOI )and what a great service, no queue like the olden days and the service is fast after computerization. I have decided not to bank with ICICI bank. (ICICI bank they has some advantage of having more ATMs than other bank)
One advantage with ICICI is that they give loans to anyone. Even drivers who earn abt Rs. 4,000 pm, can get loan. No wonder I see so many people hanging around the bank. Also they know how to get their loans back. They got "powerful collection agents" who will make sure that u pay back the bank or else visit a hospital.

I have some of the worst banking experiences with this bank. Now you would ask me, why I continue to bank with them............. Well I don't.
These guys are unprofessional, have no courtesy, or respect for time. No one including the bank manager ( have been to their brampton branch) will take responsiblity for any wrong doing.
I know that one has few choices, when it comes to Desi banks, but I can vouch that this is one of the worst banks to deal with. There was one time I had to send a remittance, and it stayed with the brampton branch for 15 days because of a "technical error"..............
Now I wouldn't touch this "international bank" with a bargepole.
I'd rather spend an extra 20 bucks with Western Union, sending money to India.

I think you are returned to Bangalore with your family. A Big decision that you have implemented and completed a full circle of relocation revolution.I hope the transition is smooth. Here are after you are Desi in Bangalore, DIB.
I think the ICICI staff you met at Bangalore branch needs few verbal communication classes and public speaking classes to address his deficient. How to speak to ICICI customers is very interesting and important not advertising with Sharukhan. He is making Million dollars by acting and ICICI need not spend money on advertisement where their service is in big question mark??. ICICI can fund some money to their employees to improve their communication skills. He should join a Toastmasters Club near by his work place or should immigrate to Canada to learn how to speak English and join some LINC classes which is free and funded by Citizenship and Immigration of Canada(CIC).
It looks the complete ICICI need to be revamped and organized to serve better way to the Resident account holders as well as Non Resident account holders.
The Chief Executive Officer is taking a salary of 300 K to 400 K Canadian Dollars per annum and leaving both domestic and international customers in lurch. ICICI domestic pay is at par with any other financial institution India even then their service is poor and worst. This is shame and insane. The customers and buyers are always fool in this world. We should find a way to overcome this problem? What type of feed back services ICICI is providing to their customers? Why can't they serve better than what they are doing? Can't we contact them directly to the highest office of ICICI or RBI or the Financial Minister. Ultimately the customers are facing problems locally and internationally after paying their service charges.
There is no point to talking about one or two counter personals or managers inabilities to fix the whole organization disorder. The financial institution is vicariously liable for their employees incompetence. ICICI need to fix this problem otherwise the customers are affected very badly all parts of the world. This is my fifteen cents contribution to improve ICICI services locally and internationally.
